Remove the fuse from the fuse holder.
Use a multi-meter aet to low ohms scale.
Place each probe on the ends of the fuse, if the multi-meter shows a low reading then the fuseis OK. If the multi-meter shows a high reading or no reading the the fuse is open circuit or blown.
If the fuse is a glass type and it is burnt on the inside then the fuse is blown.

Dash light fuse dodge sportsman 1978 location

whoa. A 37 year old Dodge. Would that be with the old style Buss brand fuses with the glass cylinder between two metal ends? The fuse panel location should be under the driver's dash. I don't think dodge was too different in locating most items, and that's where it usually was found. Don't be surprised by the small number of fuses, my '79 Datsun has only 5 or 6 fuses on the whole truck.

Why haven't you bought an automotive test light to check your fuses? You don't have to pull them out to inspect, a test light will tell you immediately if the fuse is good or bad while still inserted. Plus you can tell if the fuse is getting power as it should when checking circuits.
To test any fuse with a test light, clip the tester lead to a good ground screw or metal bracket- be absolutely sure the ground is good or the test is invalid-now for a dash light, turn the head/park light switch on. Now one end of the fuse will be hot- use the test light probe to touch one end of the fuse or just the metal clip surrounding the fuse- your test light should light up. Test the fuse by touching the other end. If fuse is good tester will light on both ends of fuse. If fuse is blown, tester will only light on one end of the fuse. If your wiring to the fuse panel is good, you know some of the wires to it will be hot. Some are hot all time (brake lights, horn), some are hot with key in on, run, or start. You just follow the circuit that way, and use a test light or voltmeter, you can't go wrong...well, you can, but you can also learn from your mistakes. Incidentally, you can test all the modern fuses for today's cars in the same way. All of these modern molded fuses have slots called test ports on them, one at each end of the tops of the fuse. No more pulling them out to eyeball, whoops.

Tip

USE A TEST LIGHT PEOPLE!

a1cbacf.jpgPeople,use a test light,it is your best friend, when trying to find a bad fuse,or a bad circuit,it is your friend, and using it will make you feel good about yourself.Like testing to see if there is voltage to your head lamp,or to the radio,or to find a blown fuse without pulling it out and looking at it.The test light will tell you witch fuse is blown, and you will not have to look for the fuse, and if the fuse is not marked, for example ,radio,if you test all the fuses, and find a blown fuse,it will most likely be the one for the radio. The test light grounds, with a cilp on a long lead, and you touch the fuses on each side, and if the fuse only lights up,on one side, then you know that fuse is bad,if it does not light up at all,on either side, then you know there is know the fuse has no power to it.The test light is not to costly either, about 5 dollars.

The remote heated mirrors on my 2004 CVPI do not work. I checked fuse #10, a 10a fuse, and it sight-tested good. What do I check next, and how? Thanks

Just because a fuse "looks" good doesn't mean it is. You should use a 12 volt test light to test the fuse (with fuse plugged in and the key in the on or accessory position). There should be power to both sides of the fuse (There are two small metal test strips at the top of the fuse itself). If the test light lights up after touching both sides of the fuse then the problem may be with a resistor or fusible link in the wire or the mirror heat switch itself.

Trying to find fuse for blower motor on my 2004 dodge durango

Get a good fuse tester. Test all fuses. There are two fuseboxes. One under the hood & one inside the vehicle. All the fuses can be tested while still in the fusebox. there are test points facing out on each fuse. The ignition switch should be in the "on" position during the fuse testing. Power on only one side of the fuse, the fuse is bad. Power on both sides of the fuse, the fuse is good. Power on neither side, may be a spare fuse. If all the fuses test good, the blower motor may have to be tested. Most Durango blower motors, can be removed for testing &/or replacing from under the right side of the dash, without a lot of work.

Where can I find a fuse diagram for a 2004 vw passat? My driver's side daytime runnning lights and low and high beams are out.

GET A GOOD FUSE TESTER & TEST EVERY FUSE. THERE IS A FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD & MAYBE ONE INSIDE THE CAR. MOST ALL FUSES CAN BE TESTED WHILE STILL IN THE BOX. THEY HAVE TEST POINTS FACING OUT.THE IGNITION SWITCH SHOULD BE ON DURING THE FUSE TESTING. POWER ON ONE SIDE OF THE FUSE ONLY, BAD FUSE. POWER ON BOTH SIDES, GOOD FUSE. POWER ON NEITHER SIDE, SPARE FUSE.

I blew the fuse for the auxillery power (looks like the "cigerette lighter" recepticle). I haven't been able to figure out what it is called on the fuse panel. Passenger side, side of dash board.

THE NAME MAY BE HARD TO RECOGNIZE. GET A GOOD FUSE TESTER, & TEST EVERY FUSE.THERE IS A FUSE PANEL INSIDE THE VEHICLE & ALSO UNDER THE HOOD. ALL OF THE FUSES CAN BE TESTED WITHOUT REMOVING THEM FROM THE FUSE BOX. LOOK CLOSELY & YOU CAN SEE TEST POINTS FACING OUT ON EACH FUSE. POWER ON ONE SIDE OF THE FUSE ONLY, MEANS THE FUSE IS BAD. POWER ON BOTH SIDES , THE FUSE IS O.K.
IGNITION SWITCH SHOULD BE ON DURING THE TESTING.

The gauges for my speedometer, rpm, gas tank, temperature stopped working I know its a bad fuse but I dont know which one because I lost my owner's manual

Check EVERY fuse. Use a 12V test light. Take the test light and clip it to a metal part of the car and test each fuse with the tip. If both sides light up the light, the fuse is good. If only one side lights but the other side doesn't, the fuse is bad. Fuses are made to be tested like this. With a test light, it will maybe take 1 minute to check every fuse. If all fuses test good, these instrument panels had issues with bad solder joints.

Cigarette lighter in 96 Nissan Pathfinder does not work

If you have a 12v test light you can test each fuse in the fuse box. Connect the test light cable to a good ground. Turn ignition to on/run position and using the test light probe, touch one side of a fuse and then the other side. Test light should light on both sides of the fuse. If it only lights on one side of a fuse then that fuse is blown. It says the amp rating on the fuse. Check all fuses, as there could be more than one fuse blown. Replace fuses with the same rating as the blown fuse. If you don't have a test light, you can get one at any auto parts store or even WalMart has them. Shouldn't be more than 4 or 5 dollars. Hope this helps . Good luck.
