Yes, the model number is 51H84.

I may attempt the repair, based in part on the dificulty of the procedure, so any instructions would be greatly appreciated.

If I find that the repair is beyond my skill level, do you have a ball park estimate on what a professional would carge to do the repairs?

    Thanks again.

This is a classic convergence problem. Please confirm that your model is 51H84 and whether or not you intend to repair this yourself. You will need to know how to solder. If you wish to attempt the repair, confirm the model and update this and I'll provide you with details and instructions.

If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on the convergence IC (STK394-250). This will be a large black pack attached to a heatsink. If the resoldering fails to resolve the problem, replace the IC. This should be available for under $20 on the web. If you would rather have a service shop repair it, expect a parts cost in the $40 range plus the local labor rate (Estimated: $300 or so).

The picture is showing a double image and is distored.

The problem you are refering to is more than likely a convergence problem. The convergence circuit in your tv is controlled by an IC (integrated circuit) stk392-110 and it makes the 3 colors (red, blue, green) line up/converge together to create a clear picture. You'll know when this part needs to be replaced because the picture you see is 3d looking and possibly bowed on the top or bottom or on the sides in any or all 3 colors.

I have a HCN4727w samsung. Red/green shadowing. Bowed image

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped or bowed
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture
