My oreck practicly sticks to the floor.

Am I doing something wrong?  I try to push it across my carpet but it resists my efforts to the point I'm ready to junk it.

Replace your belt by removing the screws from the baseplate, removing the baseplate and brushroll, and hooking the belt around the silver metal motor pulley. Then put the belt on the pulley side of the brushroll, and pull the brushroll back into its home in the front nozzle, ensuring that the brushroll ends are oriented the same direction. Spin it to ensure that everything spins freely, and then replace the baseplate. Party.

Make sure that the wheels are not bound up with hair and thread and change the belt.
If you have deep shag or frieze carpeting then this is the best it will get.

The roller brush on my Oreck XL Classic has only center bristles. Both sides have been worn down to nothing. It is hard to push. Why are the bristles wearing down?

Sounds as if the wheels are collapsed on one side and the brush is harder in contact on one side. In correct alignment the brush should just kiss the top of the carpet causing the bristles to flex a little.

Oreck will fix it for you under warranty;

When I'm vacuuming it's very hard to push

There are many reasons, perhaps yours is one of these.
1) The carpet/bare floor selector.
This adjuster raises and lowers the front of the vacuum according to the depth of the carpet
. A thick carpet has the wheels dropped way down away from the front of the machine, a smooth floor or a very short pile carpet has the wheels up high , close to the front of the machine.
Having the selector set wrong can cause this problem.
2) Check to see if the front wheels are rolling freely.
If one or both are clogged with hair, carpet strands, string, etc., the vacuum can be hard to push.
God bless your efforts.

Is there a Dyson vacuum that Will work on high pile Mohawk carpet?

Patty,
I am not sure about any of the Dyson vacuums being able to handle that carpet. I work at an Oreck store on the weekends and I know that we have had several customers come in with the same question as yours and we recommend the Oreck Magnesium RS or any of the Miele vacuum cleaners. They have been tried out on Mohawk carpet and have been found to work well. Hope this helps!

Adjust height for plush carpet

The best solution is to change your method of trying to push the vacuum. The more upright the handle is on an Oreck, the harder it will be to push. The lower the angle (the closer the handle is to the carpet) the easier it will be to push. There will be a huge difference. Use a straight stiff arm that is pointed directly down towards the carpet. Use your shoulder and have a near locked elbow. The vacuum will now push easily.

I have installed a higher pile carpet, how can you adjust the deck of an Oreck?

To the best of my knowledge, you can not. However, there is a solution to the problem of pushing the Oreck on a high pile carpet. The more upright the handle, the harder the Oreck will be to push. The lower the angle or the closer the handle is to the carpet, the easier the Oreck will be to push. Use a straight stiff arm pointed down. More your shoulder with a near locked elbow. You will find your Oreck much, much easier to push.

Smartstrand carpet makes vacuums difficult to push

The seam problem could be an installation problem. It is important to pattern match any carpet with a pattern. If the carpet is a plush carpet, the seams should not be invisible, but not unsightly. If he carpet is a frieze, the seams should be hard to find. Any variance from these norms could mean a redo of the seams by a talented carpet installer. In a large room such as yours seams will never be invisible.

Difficulty vacuuming SmartStrand carpet

Wish I had a solution because we have the same problem with our Smartstrand. We have a Beam Central Vac put in our new townhome and it takes a huge amount of effort to push the power head forward. I have tried a couple of regular vaccum cleaners on it; same problem. The bottom of our power head has a black residue on it. ILike you, I am thinking there is something in this green product that accumulates on the bottom of the power head and prevents the power head from going forward smoothly. There must be other people having the same problem.
Help!

My Oreck has become very hard to push across carpet

IF IT PUSHED EASILY ON THE SAME CARPET BEFORE, THEN THE BRUSHROLL IS NO LONGER CONTACTING THE CARPET IT USED TO. A NEW BRUSHROLL AND/ OR BELT SHOULD GET YOU MOVING AGAIN. TRY THE BELT FIRST, MUCH CHEAPER.

IF YOU HAVE RECENTLY CHANGED THE BELT BY REMOVING THE BASEPLATE (NOT THE RECOMMENDED WAY) CHECK BASEPLATE TO MAKE SURE IT IS FLUSH WITH HOUSING.
