The dust cup has a small gray tray that appears to be part of the cup, but is not. I made the same mistake also and almost broke the stupid thing trying to get it out. Simply push the lock to the left to unlock. Gently lift the dust cup and not the gray tray and the cup will slide out easily.

How do I remove the dust cup and clean it?

Hey, this is Tristan with Crucial Vacuum,

In order to remove the dust cup, there's a designated lever that you slide to the left in order to pull the dust cup out. This slider is above the HEPA filter (the four holes near the bottom of the vacuum). After cleaning, you slip the dust cup back and slide the slider to the right to lock it back into place.

Below I have attached a link to the users manual for the Eureka 2997-2999 series. You should refer to page 4 to view the diagrams pertaining to my suggestions.

MAINTAINING A EUREKA BAGLESS VACUUM

HI, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum!

Vacuum maintenance is basically a general procedure and requirements for all units, but your Eureka Altima Vacuum can be easily maintained and by doing so properly you will make sure your unit performs at it's maximum capacity and to last longer.

After every use, make sure to empty your unit's dust cup. Allowing for fine dust and debris to rest in your unit's dust cup for a long period may cause your unit to become clogged.

It is recommended to wash and clean your unit's filter screen weekly. To do so, tap your filter screen outdoor to take off any excess dirt and debris and then clean under running water until the water comes out clean. Allow the filter screen to fully dry before inserting it back into the unit.

Foam and cloth filters should also be washed and dried weekly, by following the same steps from cleaning the filter screen. Do not use any soap, dishwasher, dryer or washing machine to do so. Allow your filters to air dry for 24 hours before re-installing them in your Eureka.

Replace your HEPA filter and belts every 6 months. Last, make sure to clear your roller brush of any tangles hair strands or debris monthly and to replace at least every year.

You can purchase direct your replacement belts and HEPA filter from Crucial Vacuum with free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10

Can not get the dirt cup off of my eureka altima 2993

I have a similar model but I believe the solution would be the same. My dirt cup wasn't coming out after turning the lever so I wedged a butter knife between the clear dirt cup and the grey plate under it and pried the two apart. With the knife pushed in between the two pieces came apart easily. Now the cup slides out with no problem. _395.jpg

I'm having trouble getting the cup to remove. Once we did get it to come out and we put it back in. When we turned it on dust blew out of the vacuum where it should have been sucking in.

The dark gray plastic slide is separate from the Easy Empty Cup. Just slide the release tab all the way to open position, and then pull the Easy Empty Cup straight up. With a little effort, the cup will dislodge from the dark gray plastic platter.

I can not get the dirt cup out to empty it.

Just slide the dark gray release tab, located just below the cup, all the way to open position, and then pull the Easy Empty Cup toward you.

CHANGING THE FILTER

You have to install the filter in the dust cup lid first, then put it in the dust cup. There are some clips that filter will fit into on the lid. Also, take a look at the maual. http://www.eureka.com/service/manuals/75287_eng.pdf

I experienced the same problem of being unable to remove the dust cup. Inspection of the dust cup appeared to indicated two tabs on the bottom of the dust cup preventing it from sliding straight out as illustrated in the instructions. However, after much fiddling, I assumed that the dust cup with the tabs was probably a slightly different part than actually intended for that particular model (2996avr) and so decided to force the cup out, reasoning that if the tabs broke in the process, that was necessary for removal of the cup anyway, and therefore not detrimental.

HOWEVER, upon forcing the cup out, the cup broke away from a plate upon which it is designed to sit. The cup had apparently become stuck to the plate after much use without sufficient care and cleaning. The plate is what the tabs are attached to, and so by breaking the cup free of the plate, the tabs were not an issue, and the cup easily slid in and out of the housing, as intended. It was also observed, upon removal of the cup, that there is a very slight lip on the front of the plate to secure the cup in the proper position; this would likely act as an additional hinderance if the cup was also stuck to the plate by old cemented grime.
