Question about Marantz CC-4300 5-Disc CD Changer

Open Question

Marantz dr4050 cd recorder...

Hi, hope I can get some help!
Cd player bought few years ago but little used,
1st prob - On start up the motor sounds noisy like it is struggling to get going,or obstructed? this was a problem from the start even after taking it in for repair, nothing has changed!
2nd prob - when playing a disc in the cd deck/drive it plays for a couple of minutes then stops and the display just shows the number of tracks, I have tried several cds and it does the same on all of them.
3rd and hopefully lastly! - the cd-r deck/drive is playing ok but then sometimes doesn't read or play cds, even if new, have tried several discs and this happens often too!

I am reluctant to part or believe it is on its way out as the machine has hardly been used and cost me a fortune when I bought it!
Can anyone recommend any repairers in North London area?
Thanks all...
LL

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Most likely, new optical (lazer) pick up required to solve this issue.

SOURCE: My one-year old Marantz CD5001 CD player

these models use the 12.1 philips laser mechanism and it is a very common problem for failing to read discs.
various technics / marantz / philips / cyrus cd players etc also use it and are plagued with the same fault.
it's a 90% chance the laser is dead!
philips realised the unreliability of this laser and uprated it to the identical looking VAM-12.
do not dismiss the spindle motor as these also fail quite alot on this mechanism.

hope this helps.

SOURCE: sub q error

I think that is a wise choice, this is clearly a manufacture defect.

laser cleaning cd's very rarely work. the only thing they are good for is if there is a build-up of dust on the lens. Sounds like you most likely need to have the laser replaced.

There are 2 types of recorders. Professional, which you can use any kinds of cdr blanks and the Consumer, which requires to use
"Audio or Music only" discs and harder to obtain locally nowadays, but probably plenty on line.

I have had this problem twice now in ten years, each time took it to get repaired at a marantz dealer and they replaced the laser. First time was about $150, second time they didn't charge me. No problems otherwise - which for an integrated item like this, where so many things can go wrong, is pretty good.
