I CAN'T USE MY MACHINE

you seem to be the only person with an EL Error, although some report it is E7 upside down! Change my Google search query to E7.

Not much information of a Reset Procedure either. The standard way is to pull the plug overnight.

Generally the error message is due to "some" electrical overload. It settles itself most times by turning off the sewing machine for a few seconds to allow complete shut-down and then turning it back on. It the error message returns, it is best to visit your qualified local technician.

This can be due to error in the control board. Shut down and remove plug and when switched on press down the start/stop button. If the error does not clear this can be a fault in the motor drive within the control panel board.
Remove the panel and check the connections to the motor, check the motor and the capacitor to the motor or if the motor is jammed.

If it is showing a blue scree of death (BSOD) and shuts down before you can read the error message try this:
Turn the computer off, then turn it on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Scroll down below Safe Mode and you will see an option to Disable Automatic Restart. Select it and reboot your machine. Next time it boots up you will be able to read the error message. You'll probably need a system disc or repair disc to fix the blue screen error message.

The Error E40 warning means the door is not properly closed. The E40 error code indicates a loss of electrical power usually but not always due to the door not shutting properly or not locking. But, since you smelled burning it could be any electrical short that blew a fuse and shut the machine down. It could also be the motor windings with the internal overload protector shutting it down.

To delay the 3 second shut down and enable the technician to access service mode; open the front door and pull out the transport unit. Do not actuate front door microswitch. Press the service mode button, enter " * 4 * ", scroll to error clear and clear error code. Machine will automatically turn off power after clear. Power up machine and test.
If the power shuts down after error code has been cleared, the cause of the error has not been corrected. Correct cause of error code and clear error in service mode.

Okay, to be of real help you have to reset the error in service mode as the officetech1 said. To do this you need to press the head key (the head with the star inside) then 2+8 together and then the head key again. This will get you into service mode. Then select 'COPIER' then 'FUNCTION' then 'CLEAR' then select 'ERROR' or 'ERR' press 'OK' then switch the machine off and on again. This may get it working for a while or a long time. But if not, you will need a fixing film unit to remedy the problem.

I'm not a big fan of using hibernate or standby, I've seen it cause too many problems, such as the one you're having. I shut my machine down when I'm done, or let it run if I'm coming back within a reasonable amount of time. I've also seen hibernation or standby create operating system errors or glitches, and premature hard drive failure. If the machine is working properly other than hibernation/standby you should shut the hibernation off and just shut the machine down when not in use. If you're getting this error when using the power button to turn off the computer, then the operating system has glitched or is corrupt and needs to be reistalled.
