Hi ! When you recieved the sky router it would have come with a small card the size of a credit card with the "NETWORK KEY" on it.

It should also be on a sticker on the bottom of the router it will look something like this: AXUGACXW

enter this as the passphrase and providing nothing has been changed it should allow you access.

If this wont work, follow the instructions to reset the router to factory defaults (small button at the rear, hold in for 5 seconds or so and then release) lights should flash and it will then allow you to connect using the default network key, bear in mind though you will need to reconnect each pc that is currently connected.

What does the canon pixma mx452 mean when it ask for passphrase.

Access to the functions seem to be restricted to users who have a pass phrase (or password). If it is a wireless printer the router is asking for the pass phrase (network access key) to allow the device to connect to the network. Once it is registered with the router you will not need to enter it again, unless you reset the router.

I need a pass phrase or network key to be able to log on to my wireless internet connection for my laptop.

Hi,
Good day. If your looking for your looking for the pass phrase or network key for your router. You can try to do the following.
1. Check for a WEP key on the router itself. Usually it is on a sticker located under the router or at the back of it. 2. You can go to the router page using your internet explorer or mozilla > just type in 192.168.1.1 on your browser > it will ask for a username and password > username: leave it blank password: admin > then go to wireless setting > then it will show you your WEP or WPA or Wireless key > Dont be confuse the wep or wpa or pass phrase are all the same > then just type it on the space where its asking you to type in a pass phrase and that should work
3. If still you can locate it you can contact your internet service providers technical support department and they will be able to walk you through it

Hope this information will be helpful in resolving your concern. Have a great day and thanks for using fixya.

How do I secure wireless router ... currently open .. I'm attempting to restrict piggy-backing for security reason.

Which router do you have. You have to first open the administration page of the router. Better to do it with a laptop or computer attached to the router physically with a cable as the wireless configuration might corrupt data as the router will disconnect when you change the security setting. Default ip for router's are 192.168.1.1 , you can see your manual for the correct address and even the username and password would be provided in the documentation. Once inside the administration select Wireless and then Wireless Security may change according to manufacturer. Here you have many choices like WEP or WPA, i think for home networks WPA is a better choice as WEP is easier to break. Select TKIP under that, then you should enter a pass phrase. This is going to be like your password. It has to be minimum 11 characters long.Save settings and check if the pass phrase is asked for when connecting to your router. If it does you have secured your wireless connection.

  • 2. Name your network- something easy to remember (Hint* People see it when you are up & running, write it down as well!) {The default name is NETGEAR}
  • 3. Select your security method. NETGEAR recommends: WPA-PSK(TKIP +WPA2-PSK (AES).
  • THEN, enter a Pass-phrase {Write down also, you will get e-mail confirming registration etc... But, BSTS.
  • NOTE: Both your Network Name (SSID) & Pass phrase are case sensitive. Network name, Security method & Pass phrase must all be the same on all the wireless devices connected to your router.
  • 4. Click APPLY & close your browser.
Depending on your cable/internet provider- if these instructions don't do it,
one of their agents should be kind enough to assist?
I was lucky enough to have them do it with me over the phone, after I had surgery & got sick of looking of the thing in the box in my floor!
Good Luck!

What if i want to secure it. do i need the cd?

Im not sure what you are saying is your problem.

To secure your wireless network you first need to log into your routers configuration settings to do that in your address bar of your browser type http://192.168.0.2 enable either WEP or WPA security and tell it what security key or pass phrase to use.

Then on your computer when you try to connect to your wireless routers signal it will ask you to put in the security key or pass phrase you selected and thats that. You are secure.

What is wpa pass phrase while setting wireless printer

WPA with a Pre-Shared Key (PSK), also known as personal. PSK is entered as a pass phrase between 8 to 63 alphanumeric characters in the ASCII format at both ends of the wireless connection. Although PSK accepts a minimum of eight characters, for proper security, it is a good idea to use ample length and should not use a commonly known phrase. This phrase is used to generate session keys that are unique for each wireless client.

WPA pass phrase is a password for the wireless network to make it secured. You can obtain the WPA pass phrase when you access your router. Check the manual of your router for the address, username and password of your router. Go to wireless settings, you will see ther the SSID or Network Name, Network Key or the Pass Phrase and Authentication (WPA/WPA2/WEP). You can personalize the SSID,Network Key and Authentication. Remeber that for you to connect wirelessly the Authentication and Network Key on the router should match the Network Key and Authentication of the Printer or Computer.

Thanks for using Fixya,

Need a securty code

Regarding your concern, please note that in order to get the network key/password on the NETGEAR router (MODEL_NUMBER), we need to login to the router's web interface using any computer which is physically connected to the router.

Please follow the steps on a computer connected to the router using an Ethernet cable in order to find the network/security key:

1. Open the browser (like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually by typing 'http://192.168.1.1', 'http://www.routerlogin.net' or 'http://www.routerlogin.com' in the address bar.
3. When prompted for Username and Password please enter Username as 'admin' and Password as 'password' (please note that both Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on Wireless Settings' under Setup from the left menu.
5. Check if 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)' or 'WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)' is selected under 'Security Options'.
6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the pass phrase.
7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the key that has been checked.

This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the NETGEAR router's wireless network.

In some cases, for security reasons the pass phrase might show as asterisks. In this case type a new password and click apply. You will then have to use the same password for all the wireless devices connecting to the network.

HP Laptop is asking for a pharphrase to get

Sorry, clicked the wrong button.

When you are configuring the security features of your wireless router, you can choose certain encryption algorithm that requires you to enter, not a meaningless hexadecimal character string (the hex key), but a sentence or a phrase that you can easily remember. That is the pass phrase. If you are trying to configure YOUR router, you choose any meaningful, easily remembered statement (ex: the sky is blue and it is raining on Timbuktu etc.). If however you are trying to use somebody else's network, the owner of the network is the one to ask for the key.

I can't access my wireless internet, asking for a pass phrase

the D Link router is what is causing the issue - Cut your losses and get a linksys ( netgears are ok so maybe one of those ) but avoid D Link and Belkin equipment as far as wireless or networking goes.

An apple airport extreme ( although a bit more expensive ) are very good.
