TV will not stay on.

It sounds like the on-off switch that my son destroyed at age 3 by constant on off. It was a Trinitron. It was still running at least 13 years later after I replaced the switch. But it also sounds like a voltage leak due to a high moisture environment. The high voltage leak pulls a higher load and causes a protection device to open the circuit etc until everything has dried out. If I had to guess, it is a flyback transformer causing the problem.

This tv is aging and you many bad grounds on the deflection board [it has the flyback transformer] And many bad grounds on the signal module [has convergence ICs]. And many many bad capacitors..I know as I repaired a few of these.

Tv cuts back off when turned on it trys to stay on but keep cutting back off (philips mod#60p8341a)

Any malfunction associated with an automatic shut down usually indicates a circuit problem or defective component. Unfortunately, the days of taking off the back cover of your TV and replacing a defective tube or fuse are long gone. Proper servicing will require troubleshooting procedures that can only be performed by a qualified electronic repair facility or professional television repair person. Ask for an estimate and a realistic appraisal of whether the set can be adequately fixed. Depending on the age and condition of your TV it may not be cost effective to repair.

My Philips 60 inch rear projection TV model

Mute the volume and listen at the rear of the unit. You should be able to hear a fan running since these have hot-spots that require some kind of air movment to keep them from overheating. There are protective circuits that will shut down the power supply once a critical temperature is reached.
The second possibility is the power supply itself; these sophisticated units are very energy efficient but have components in them that age and lose their function over time. The main supply should be fairly easy to spot; it will have larger components on it, some cylindrical (capacitors), others block-like.
If the fan is running and it is still shutting down, this supply may need repair or replacement. Look for a part number on the board and inquire at the manufacturer's service center about those possibilities. Have your model & serial numbers of the set available too.

Wont stay on after power is hit

Hello, I believe this may be a HV/LV power supply problem since this is a common issue in this RCA ITC222 chassis, I posted this earlier and I beleive that it can help you, Hello This is a common problem with the ITC222 chassis, I would check CP120, CP140, CP150 to see if they are bad I suspect CP150 is the one that is bad. Its value is 2200uf 16VDC. It is located on the same board as the IHVT and is in between the Heat sink in the middle of the board. I would also like to say that if possible you should get a qualified TV Technician to repair this set for you, due to the nature of this problem and the dangerous voltages present. I hope this helps, Shuttle83 http://www.electron-age-technologies-llc.com

My grand daughter owns a portable tv doesn't stay on

Hello fredpagan38,

This is an indication of a possible High Voltage problem, your set has what is called a shutdown circuit which detects excessive current which may cause X-Radiation to occur. The problems that may cause this are a short circuited Integrated High Voltage Transformer, a shorted circuited or open protection capacitor, or a defective Horizontal Output Transistor. To be sure you can buy the schematic and with a multimeter you can examine the voltages (power on) and resistances (power off and unplugged) of the components just mentioned. If you do not have a background in electronics, I would suggest that you have a TV repair technician look at the set and give you an estimate on it repair.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Shuttle83
