Kdsr50XBR1 FAN FIX!!!! SPREAD THE WORD!!!!

Cliff!!!!!!!

I have the answer for the fan issue on the KDSR50XBR1!!!!!

Ok, I think I have the answer for the BIG FAN failure. I recently did a similar fix on the spindle of an xbox 360 and it is identicle. Ok, this is an EXTREMELY EASY FIX...

Open the back of the tv, locate the large fan (on the lower left on the back of the set.) unscrew the screen and remove the fan.

Once the fan is removed, you will see the side with the model number and the other side is totally open.

On the open side, pull...

The fan will come off, into your hand, it is only held by magnets...

You will notice a spindle on the fan and the other side has the magnets and the hole where the spindle came from (this is the fan motor).

Clean both the spindle and the hole (motor) with a q-tip. The hole is smaller than the q-tip, but do the best you can to remove the old lubricant.

Get a bit of WD40 and lubricate the spindle and spray a touch in the hole.

Put them together, reconnect your fan, test it on startup and thank me...lol...

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!! IT WORKS, TRUST ME...

What do you think? Spread the word, lets save some folks from spending needlessly...

With the red light having four blinks, it looks like it could be a faulty fan. Are all the fans the same on a Sony WEGA KDSR50XBR1?

Does all the other functions work well and if your set works other wise if force cooled ?
In such a case if the heat exceeds the possiblity of a cut off cannot be ruled out and checking onthe power to the fan will justify.

Sent you a fix on the tv...

Four flashes indicates fan error. Most likely candidate is the lamp or exhaust fan. With a flashlight look through the back of the set behind the fan when you first try on. You should see if the fan is moving or struggling to move. If its slow or not turning that's your problem. The fan needs to be replaced.

I get the same problem (4 flashing red lights).
I done some internet troubleshooting and narrowed it down to an overheated power circuit card/fan issue.

It turns out one of the fans is failing and will not rotate at the appropriate speed to cool the power circuit card, this will kick out the 4 flashing lights from the diagnostics.

In lieu of replacing the fans I have a temporary solution:
For my TV (kdsr50xbr1) the fan in question is located on the far left side (facing the rear). You will see a grill on the back of the TV showing you where the fan is located.

First, get a can of compressed air and blow it into every fan. This will clear away a lot of dust and help the fans move easier.
There is one blower type fan located inside the TV, remove the back panel and look for a tall yellow circuit card just to the left off the center of the TV. Behind that card is a blower (stands upright looks like a tube). Blow air into that blower, you will see a lot of dust come through the duct and out where the large fan in the center is located.
Put everything back together. and provided the fans aren't too far gone the TV should be working again.

Also, if the issue comes back, try this:
When you turn on the TV, shoot a short squirt of compressed air into the fan (Far left facing the rear). This will give it a kick start and bring it up to speed.

It is important to note that the compressed air cans do contain a liquid and as such are not compatible with electronics when they are plugged in. Try your hardest to keep the can upright and not allow the liquid to squirt out where it shouldn't. If it does it will evaporate in a few seconds.

Ok, relatively long post, to summarize:

1. Open back of TV, blow compressed air into every fan to clean them.
2. Blow air into whichever fan is causing problem if it happens again.
3. Keep the can upright if the TV is still plugged in. Don't sue me if you fry your TV.
4. If this doesn't work (has for me) replace fans
