You need to re-install the Iomega backup software on the new hard drive, so that it will see the backup files on the external hard drive.

Iomega portable hard drives connect to your computer through a USB port.
When you connect the Iomega hard drive to your computer, it should pop up as an icon in your
My Computer folder.
If you can't find the icon in your My Computer folder then you probably need to update the driver for the device.
Updating this driver is not very hard and can be done automatically from the Windows Device Manager.

Plug your Iomega hard drive into one of your computer's USB port.
Click the "Start" button and go to the "Run" field.
Type "Devmgmt.msc" into the Run box and press the "Enter" key.
Go down to the bottom of the device manager to the "Universal Serial Bus Controller."
Click on the little + (plus) sign to expand it.
Look for an entry with a yellow exclamation point and click on it.
Click the "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" button and then click the "Next" button.
Click the "Finish" button when the installation has finished.
Go to the "My Computer" folder from your "Start" menu and locate the Iomega hard drive icon.
Double click the icon to gain access to the external hard drive.

Have only just decided to install my new Iomega 500 GB usb 2.0 hard drive and I have mislaid my quick install guide. I have an Apple imac can you help please

Just connect the AC power to the IOMEGA, and the USB cable between the IOMEGA and a USB port on your computer. It is a "plug-and-play" device, and so Apple OS X should automatically recognize it.

Iomega 1TB Desktop USB 2.0 Hard Drive. turned it on it keeps clicking but is not recognised by my laptop.

If it's clicking then more than likely the heads have crashed. It's very expensive to fix...usually 1,500-2,700.

Hopefully you didn't have anything SUPER important on the drive. I usually recover them for 700 but I'm independent so that's why my prices are much lower.

You should still be able to return the drive to Iomega for a replacement (RMA).

It depends upon what circuit board is burn't out. If the Iomega adapter circuit board is burnt out you may be able to remove the hard drive and put it into a new USB hard drive adapter case.
Before you purchase a new USB hard drive adapter case, remove the hard drive and test it with a USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If this computer detects it as an external hard drive and you can open the folders and files then the hard drive is OK.
If not then you need a new USB hard drive device.
