My Toshiba RD-XS35 DVD recorder will not power up but shows the time and the power button is lit. I have to unplug it for 2 sec and plug in and it works again for a couple of hours.

Myself and a co worker are having the same issue with ours. It started around the same as yours. I thing it has something to do with the TVGOS and the transition to digital broadcasting.

After surfing the new and trying to fix this issue, I am convinced the issue has to do with the TVGOS. I re-setup up the TVGOS with a zip code of 00001. I think this keeps the TVGOS from looking for TVGOS data. For 3 days my RD-XS35 has returned to normal on and off operation. I just have to manually program the recording times to record shows.

I changed my IR code by accident and now nothing works. I can not get back to the IR 1 code. Everytime I hit a button the DR3 appears but nothing works. How could I fix this.

Unplug the unit for a few minutes and see if will power up. If not, the product needs to be repaired or replaced.

My coworker has also changed the zip code on his toshiba to 00001 as well. His, rd-xs35, has been functioning without the tv guide service but he can use the manual record to record shows.

It works again. They must have fixed the problem. I reset my zip code on Christmas and it is now downloading the TV Guide data and still turns on and off normally.

When powered on, code F60 shows on player and nothing works.turned on and off and also unplugged for 10 seconds but doesn't reset.

With the unit powered off, press and hold the Stop and Channel Up buttons while powering on the main unit at the same time for about 5 seconds. This hoepfully will reset everything

Rdr-dc100 locked

The child lock is on. Press the power off until just the time shows in the display. Then press and hold the stop button until the display shows "unlocked". You should be able to open the tray now.

Some times I find an open capacitor where the power transistor is "heat sink mounted" also check to see if the transistor itself is shorted, failing that it is probably one of the smaller parts on the power supply board that is gone.

Magnovox MWR20V6 will not begin recording when it should.

This is more a work-around than a solution, as the unit is failing to function normally; however, having the identical problem I observed that the unit is failing to power on at 2:00 minutes before beginning recording, a necessary step to record to DVD.

My work-around is the following:

1) Set up the timer, inputting necessary date, time, etc. as normal. With the unit still powered on, start the timed recording mode by pressing timer set, as normal. You will see the red clock icon and the DVD logo iluminate on the VFD.

2) Press the Standby-On power button. This will power the unit on in VCR mode. You should at this time be unable to switch from VCR to DVD mode since the DVD is still in timer mode. LEAVE THE UNIT POWERED ON in this manner. The timer will function and the DVD will record normally.

I have no clue why my unit suddenly forgot how to power up on its own in order to record to DVD. If anyone has an answer for that one please post!

I think these are just junk unfortunately. I have tried multiple times with a reset problem on mine - I think these just have faulty power supplies?

Problem with DVD-VCR combo

I found if you disconnect the power and keep it off for thirty seconds or so to let it reboot, the "SAFE" problem disappears.
