NTLDR missing on XP desktop

NTLDR is the boot loader for windows XP. This is the part the kick starts the entire process of XP loading. It is located at C:\NTLDR One of the easier ways to fix this is Either boot in to the recover console from a Windows XP disc, or download Hiren Boot CD, burn it to a disc. Insert the CD into your Dell and reboot the computer. Note you may need to enter BIOS and enable boot to CD/DVD. Once at the Hiren menu, select Boot Mini XP. Once the Mini XP loads you can copy NTLDR loader from the mini xp to your C:\ drive. Then remove the disc and reboot the computer.

Installed a ASUS A8N5X motherboard and it go through bios and stops and then it tells me that NTLDR is missing . How do I fix this Thank you.

How to solve NTLDR is missing in windows XP issue
Using Windows recovery console. The Windows 2000 and Windows XP CDs supplied by Microsoft has a tool called the Recovery Console which can be used to repair errors that prevent Windows XP from starting using the command line. OEM versions of Windows XP, including computers that were supplied with Windows XP preinstalled, may not have this utility. This problem may occur if the basic input/output system (BIOS) on your computer is outdated, or if one or more of the following Windows boot files are missing or damaged: Ntldr
Ntdetect.com
Boot.ini
Check your drives for floppy,USB storage devices,CDs and any other bootable media.Because sometmes these things makes problems. Then go to BIOS and do the BIOS settings to boot from the source where the OS is installed. 1: Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer. 2: When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
3: Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
4: Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key(most of the cases it will be "1" only) and pressing enter.
5: You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password. 6: From the command prompt, copy NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM from the i386 folder of the CD to the root folder of the hard drive. In the example commands given below, C: is the hard drive and D: is the CD-ROM drive. You will need to change the drive letters if appropriate:
COPY D:I386NTLDR C:
COPY D:I386NTDETECT.COM C:

Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

Ntldr is compressed

An NTLDR is compressed error is pretty easy to fix(much better then NTLDR is missing errors!).

First you need to boot to the recovery console.

To boot to the recovery console follow these steps:
1. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer. Click(or press any key) to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3. When prompted type "1" or if you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5. Now you should be at the comman prompt and ready to repair the ntldr file!

Now all you need to do is enter the following commands(in order) and each command on a new line just like you see them here:

cd \
attrib -c ntldr
exit

Your computer should now reboot, and everything "should" work!

Need to find the NTLDR on my emachine I tried the recovery disk option to reset the reboot option - and was still unable to correct the problem. Are you aware of another solution? Thank You

A couple of things.

If the system has a floppy diskette drive, ensure that no diskette is in the drive. (I know it sounds simple but ...)

If no floppy drive issue, then run diagnostics on the hard drive. The drive may be failing.

Last you can try booting to the XP CD enter recovery console, and run the command: CHKDSK /R, then reboot.

My impression, if no floppy drive issue, then failing hdd
