Question about JVC Everio G Camcorder

JVC CU-VD10U DVD Burner

I have two burners and neither of them will recognize a blank disc. We are connecting an Everio 515 and/or an HD7. Burners recognize the camera but will not recognize the blank media. I have tried Ridata, Memorex, Magnavox, Maxell and Sony blanks. I have resorted to buying 2X -RW'S, and those won't load up. One of the machines failed after burning 4 DVD's. It was sent back to JVC for repair. We were charged $125 for the repair, and it burned 1 DVD, then failed.

One of the first things I did with both units was to open them up and clean the lens. I have operated a VCR and Video Camera Repair for years, so I feel most qualified to do that. When this failed, I searched and found updated software. I have attempted to load and run CyberLink 5.5 with no success. It origionally came packaged with CyberLink 2. I think we are just dealing with a true JVC lemon!

  • waynerd Oct 01, 2008

Maxell 2X -R is what they packaged with the unit as a trial DVD blank. I have tried Maxell 2X -RW's with no luck. As you can imagine, 2x media is hard to find. I have made attempts to contact JVC Tech with absolutely no success.

This is my attempt to repost concerning the JVC CU-VD10 Sharestation failures. I have two of the units. One was bought along with a JVC GZ-MG505 camera, the other with a JVC GZ-MG555. Both worked well first time out of the box. Both were put away for several weeks after their first trial. Our next attempt to use each of them resulted in failure. The erroe message on both was incompatible disc replace disc. We have tried cleaning to no avail. We tried using different media to no avail. One unit was sent back to JVC for a repair charge of $125.00 and burned one disc (a brand that we had purchased). I called JVC Tech and spent an hour on hold waiting for a Technician. I finally terminated the call without talking to anyone. I sent JVC Tech a query and never recieved confirmation of the query or a reply. Last week, I again emailed a query to JVC and have yet not heard from them. Based on the large quantity of these that are to be found both on the internet (ebay) and in retail stores as returns that don't work, I have to suspect that they are basically lemons that JVC will not support. I have spent several hours going from blog to blog reading failure reports from other buyers, and no one seems to have a solution. That is as much info as I can provide on the JVC CU-VD10U Sharestation. Now it's time for FixYa to show off and find the solution everyone needs! Thanks.

Three cameras and two burners, and every camera to burner combination gives the same results! To what firmware are you referring?

  • waynerd Oct 06, 2008

With three different JVC cameras, two burners and 5 different brands of media, no combination will work. The same error message appears regardless of the combination. What firmware do all the experts keep referring to? The camera/burner combination is a stand alone entity. There was no software or firmware to be installed before usage.

Nick, Thanks for the response. I fail to see the connection between the two problems. I am not having any problems what-so-ever taking video from the camera hard drive to the pc hard drive. I can burn from camera to DVD recorder in real time. It can use the Everio software to backup to my pc. The backup to pc process is most time consuming. It took 12 hours to backup 4 hours of video to the pc. The Sharestation was designed and sold as a complementary device that would burn a usuable DVD from the camera at 2X speed without the need of a pc. This was one of its great selling features. It don't work!

  • waynerd Oct 06, 2008

Either I am not being clear on this or I am not understanding the significance of Nero. You have a stand alone DVD burner plugged in to an a.c. outlet. You have a hard drive video camera plugged in to an a.c. outlet. The video camera output is connected to the DVD burner input through a U.S.B. cable that is provided by JVC. There is no software. There is no firmware. There are two pieces of JVC equipment tied together with the supplied JVC cabling. There is a blank JVC DVD -R disc in the DVD burner. You power on both items, open the view screen on the camera, then follow the instructions sent to the viewscreen from the burner. The DVD burner makes (supposedly) a DVD directly from the cameras hard drive without the benefit of a pc.

Final comment, and I'm gonna write this off as a complete waste of time and energy. There is a list of DVD media that is reccommended, found on the second or third page of the JVC manual for the CU-DV10. I have tried each and every one of them with the same results! This FixYa exercise has netted me the same results as trying to contact JVC Tech.....NADA!

This problem is weird because if you already tried using alot of disc and still it wont burn this can be a problem with the burners , this can be a softwarer related problem I will advice you to contact JVC and ask them if there's any software update for this devices...

Hope that helps.......

This is a problem with the firmware of your camera or bad device. Try to update the firmware first.

Have you tried Nero? I want you to use the Power Cinema NE(Editor) its include in this package. Open the video file in the editor(Copy/Edit) Advance feature, you can do some editing if you wish and Produce. It will ask you what format will be the outcome(DVD Mpeg2). Once finished, this file is ready for burning. Burn it in Nero or Roxio as Data file since its already a DVD file. Hope it helps

You don't need the disc. Buy Corel's latest videostudio x2 for editing. To extract the video files from camera just plug into computer with USB cable and search the camera for files.

Unfortunately the camcorder dosn't have a DV (firewire) port to allow you to do this only USB. To burn a disc you would need to go to your computer or purchase a dvd burner.

Everio dvd burner

Usually if it's a formating issue is because it is a wrong disc. Make sure what format the burner can use meaning if it's a - or +. Also, the sony brand disc don't work with anything but sony stuff so make sure it's not a sony disc.
