Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a 6 year old American style fridge freezer. In recent times the freezer alarm has been permanently flashing and sounding periodically. The freezer does not appear as cold as it once was and it's fair to say the fridge is similar although, the digital read out suggests it holding it's temperature. I am close to replacing it but wondered if anyone out there has any ideas on possible diagnosis, potential cost of repair, life span etc. many thanks Russ

Hi thanks for the question. first i would clean all the coils at the back. remove panel and clean . then check to see if the fan in freezer works. then see if any Frost has built up on back wall of freezer. if frost on wall, you have a defrost problem. thanks the appliance doc

Refrigerator - Water Filter Indicator Light Will Not Shut Off After you change the filter the RESET WATER FILTER must be pressed and held until the red light goes off.

Note: If you do not hold the pad in, the light will stay on. Also, if you hold the pad in for a long period of time, the light will go off and then come back on.

If this does not turn the light off, having it checked by a service technician is recommended
Here is a list of refrigerator manufacturers and how to reset the filter change indicator light:
Amana- Press and hold the Auto and Dispenser Lock buttons until the water filter status indicator light flashes.
Frigidaire- Press and Hold the Reset Button Until the Indicator Light Flashes.
GE General Electric- Press and Hold the Reset Button for around 8 Seconds.
HotPoint- Press and Hold the Reset Button for around 8 Seconds.
Jenn-Air- Press and Hold The Water and Lock Buttons until the Water Filter light flashes.
Kitchen Aid- Press and Release the Light Button 5 times Quickly.
Maytag- Press and Hold The Light and Lock Buttons until the Water Filter light flashes.
Samsung- Press and Hold the Ice Type and Child Lock Buttons at the same time for 3 seconds.
Whirlpool- Press and Release the Light Button 5 times Quickly.

What temperature should you set a American style refrigerator

Turn OFF your fridge/freezer. Running the unit for an extended period of time will burn out the motor. You will need to get a technition in to check the thermostat operation.

Hi I have an old american style 4 door zanussi fridge freezer recently the freezer defrosted itself and the red warning light is now flashing since. The fridge above is still working fine. Sorry don&#

As far as I can tell the fridge and freezer are on two separate compressers so if one gos down the opposite will still work. As for the red light I can only think if the unit is not working that the defrost is stuck open, or the compresser relay I stuck open, or the compresser is shor, or t-stat is stuck open od there may be a drain pan sensor and it is full and not evaporating. Sorry that's all I got

We are changing a filter on a whirpool 20ID3L american style fridge freezer but the light keeps flashing even after we put this in? Not sure if it is in correctly. Any advise?

you have to reset the timer. Usually holding the filter reset button, if there is one, for an extended period (3 second or more) Find the manual on line if you don't have it. Most fridges have the instruction in very small print next to the filter light.
