GOT CHEK MARK BUT IPOD WON'T SHOW UP ON ITUNES

Hi ..i followed all the steps to get from the ----file w/exclamation point-----to the "" disk mode with the check mark ""on it. i got that far AND WAS THRILL!!!..then i plug it into the computer but it doesn't show up on the itunes... what happend??..please HELP!....

    hi again...i didn't know -" how i fixd my problem-" was going to be posted up in here otherwise i would have been more clearer...i mean, you have to click on=start button; then =right click on "my computer; then click on =manage; then on =disk management ; and to the right would be all the devices that should be on in "my computer"..if ipod is not listed as one of those devices than that could be why its not showing up in " itunes " either...anyways, to put IPOD back in "my computer", and "itunes", go to the apple solutions page and it will tell you how to fix all that...hope i didn't confunse you guys more.....one love..ak..

Hey there..i haven't fixed it yet but i found out why its not showing up on itunes...apple soulutions suggested that i check with my computer ( right click on my computer then manage and disk management to find out if ipod is even in my computer so i did and find out its not in my computer to start with...im going to my sisters house to see if my ipod will work there casue i don't wanna mess with computer for now...thanks though.....ak..

Computer and ipod


The exclamation mark next to a title in iTunes means that iTunes cannot locate the song associated with that title (original file cannot be found). The cause for this is an incorrect setting of iTunes preferences when copying iPod songs.
Before copying your iPod songs, setup your iTunes preferences as follows
  • Open iTunes preferences (in the Edit menu)
  • Select the Advanced tab.
  • Make sure the box next to "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" is checked.
  • Click OK.
Then use a program like TouchCopy to copy your iPod music to iTunes. You can download TouchCopy from here

My ipod just says plug into itunes to restore and when i do this it doesnt show up in itunes or my computer can anyone help?


First you will need to force your iPod into disk mode. To do this you will need to reset the iPod by pressing and holding both the menu and center buttons. Continue to do this for at least ten seconds or until the apple icon appears. (Note: You may only see a blip on the screen, continue to the next step. Keep in mind though that you may need to repeat this process once to twice to force the iPod into disc mode.)
As soon as you do see the apple icon, remove your fingers and switch to holding both the play and center buttons. Keep holding those until you see a check mark appear on the screen, below it will say Ok to disconnect. At this point your iPod will be in Disk mode.

Next open ITunes2_bing.gif on your computer and plug in the USB cable to one of the ports on your computer. Now you will connect your iPod to the USB cable. In the left hand column of iTunes you will see your iPod icon; go ahead and click on that icon. In the resulting page you will see the iPod summary. Within this page you will see a Restore button. Click on that button and follow any on screen instructions. Allow the restore to complete fully.

Ipod Nano 8gb won´t synchronize


Hi,
Try this.
  1. Put the iPod into disk mode by holding the menu and middle keys together until the screen turns dark.
  2. Then quickly hold both he middle button and play/pause buttons until the iPod shows a check mark and the words disk mode at the top.
  3. ThenClick on iTunes to open it.
  4. Connect the iPod to the computer. You may have to do a restore depending on what iTunes says you need to do.
If this doesn't work, check the bottom of the ipod where you connect the cable. See if there are any bent pins. These are very fragile and can be damaged if you insert or pull the cable out the wrong way. Hope that helps.

Quick fix - press the menu & center button until the screen lights up or an apple logo appears. Then press the pause button until you can see the menu again.

If you're having trouble with your iPod, try these steps (known around here as the five Rs) one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
  1. Retry your iPod with a different USB or FireWire port on your computer (please note that the latest iPods can only be synced through USB).
  2. Reset your iPod. To reset an iPod, iPod nano, or iPod mini, press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step. To reset an iPod shuffle, disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected), and then move the switch on the back of iPod shuffle to the off position. Wait 5 seconds, and then move the switch on the back to the play in order or the shuffle position.
  3. Restart your computer, and make sure that you have the latest software updates installed.
  4. Reinstall your iTunes software and make sure you have downloaded the latest version. Check your iPod software by connecting your iPod to your computer, and then in iTunes, select your iPod in the Source pane. Click the Summary tab, and the Version section tells you whether iPod is up to date or needs a newer version of the software. Click Update to install the latest version of the software.
  5. Restore your iPod by connecting your iPod to your computer, and then in iTunes, select your iPod in the Source pane. Click the Summary tab, and click Restore to restore iPod to its original settings. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the restore process. (Important: Please note that restoring an iPod will erase all songs and files on your iPod and restore it back to its original settings. Make a backup of any files on your iPod before restoring it. After restoring, you can transfer your music and files from your computer back to your iPod again.)
Note: Because Restore erases all of the songs and files on iPod, make sure to back up any files you've saved on the iPod disk. All of your songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and games can be loaded back to your iPod provided that you have them stored in your iTunes Library.

How to restore your iPod:
For Windows:

1. Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.

2. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.

3. After a few moments, it will appear in the source list in iTunes. If the iPod's display doesn't show "Connected" or "Do not disconnect" you may need to put the iPod into disk mode to proceed.

4. Select your iPod in the source list and you will see information about it appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.
5. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software.

The 4 possible restore options are:

Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.

Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.

Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.

Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.

6. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started.

When this stage is completed, iTunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.

7. During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage.

Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.

8. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.

For Mac:

1. Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.

2. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.

Dear Rachel, This is often the result of a corrupt file system or a dead/dying internal iPod hard drive.  The way to eliminate the file system as the cause is to do a RESTORE.  It is probably not showing up on the computer in iTunes, so you need to try to force it into disk mode.  To do this, follow the instructions below: 1)  Toggle the HOLD slider switch to ON then OFF again.  First slide over you will see orange, then slide it back to cover the orange in the hold slider.
2)  Repeat what you did by holding down the menu and select buttons and when you get the Apple logo, IMMEDIATELY let go and hold down the Select and Play buttons.
3)  You SHOULD see a check mark on the screen and along the top of the screen should be the words, "Disk Mode."  If that is there, plug in your iPod to the computer and wait for iTunes to startup.  
4)  In iTunes, select the iPod and then just click on the RESTORE YOUR IPOD button to reinstall the original software (you will lose your tunes stored in your iPod, but you should have them on your iTunes anyway).
If none of this works and you get the nasty sad icon again, it is most likely the hard drive or another hardware issue.  My advice from here is to check with the following company and have them do a FREE diagnosis and quote for repair.  Just go to Rapid Repair at this URL:  http://www.rapidrepair.com/
