Chamberlain garage door opener unit-is it compatible with craftsman keypad?

We have a Chamberlain garage door opener and a craftsman keypad outside the door. Is this keypad compatible? We have a third garage door that still has the original Craftsman garage door opener also-is there a way to program the old garage door openers (Craftsman) with the Chamberlain garage door opener unit, or do I need to buy extra openers (we have several teenage drivers!)Thanks,
Linda

I just installed a new Chamberlain garage door opener, but none of my old remote control openers will work, and even when i try to program them using the smart button on the opener, nothing happens. The old remotes are for the openers that I originally installed about 10 years ago. Will they not work with my new opener?

I have a similar problem with a twist. I have a Chamberlain wireless keypad which I purchased about 2 years ago. I just recently purchased a Genie garage door opener and wondering if my older keypad will work with the new Genie opener or if I will have to buy a new one. I can't test the keypad vs. the opener until it's installed. If it doesn't work then it would have been a better deal for me just to buy a garage door opener with a keypad included.

    Describe your Problem:

Craftsman 1/2 hp opener with safty sensor.
I replaced the drive/worm gears, before the replacement everything worked, after replacement, with a no load condition the trolly will travel about 12" toward the down position and stop and return to the up position making contact with the up contact. The status LED flashes 5 times. The safty sensor green LED are on bright. I swopped out the RPM board, the safty sensors and the logic board, and I have reversed the polarity of the safty sensors with no luck

Hello,Linda well this is your lucky day ,I have installed garage door openers for sears for 10 years and i can tell you that craftsman, chamberlain ,and liftmaster are all the same machine and manufactured under the liftmaster name , if you buy it from home depot it will be a chamberlain ,if you buy it at sears ,it will be a craftsman, and if you go to commercial building supplier it will be a liftmaster! now getting that out of the way even though they are all compatible ,there is one thing that stands in their way and that,s time ,For example if your chamberlain machine is 5 years old and you went to sears last week ,the chances of the frequency being the same are not good , most likely you have the wireless keypad , one way to test the sears keypad against the chamberlain machine is to locate the smart button on your machine ,this button allows for programming of remotes and keypads , to test and see exactly what im talking about take your remote and locate the smart button ,if you have three buttons on the remote press one of the buttons that are not being used on the remote ,above the smart button their will be a blinking light ,if you press your remote button you will notice the light go from a blink to a rapid flash , This is telling you that you are sending a signal for programming to the machine , well the keypad is exactly the same all you have to do is push the enter button on the keypad and have someone watch for the rapid blinking light ,if they are compatible the light will blink rapidly on the machine so all you have to do now is have someone press the smart button once on the machine your indicator light will now be a solid light you will have approx 60 seconds then to put a 4 digit code in the keypad and then press and hold down the enter button on the keypad , at this point you will notice the lightbulbs on the chamberlain machine to shut off and come back on this is to tell you that the machine accepted the code , after thats been done you can use your keypad , you can also find the owners manual to the chamberlain and follow the same instructions to programming the remote , they are identical in programing , if your keypad is not the same frequency you can also tell by looking at the frequency code on the backside of the keypad and also the chamberlain unit usually where the light bulb is will be its code

Chamberlain makes Craftsman so yes, they are the same. Depending on what color the button is on the opener will determine which remote can be used. I suggest using Liftmasters universal remote control and you wont have to worry about this anymore.

There are 4 diffrent remote/keyless technologies with Chamberlain/Craftsman most likelythe old remotes will not work with your new operator. But you can try to clear out the codes in the operator (push and hold the learn code button for about 20 seconds) then try programming the old remotes.

My chamberlan garage door opener keeps beeping

The only thing on a chamberlain garage door opener that can beep is the battery back up unit. It beeps if it is being used or if it has lost it's charge or if it has lost the power to be charged. There is also an led light that will give you information on the status up by the battery too. These will be in your manual to decipher. You can get a new battery at chamberlain.com Thanks BB

How do I program the keypad controller?

On the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go you will find the smart/learn button. Press and immediately release this and then walk over to your keypad and key in your 4 digit code and press enter.

When cold outside, door only opens a few inches

1.Check to see if the door is running correctly.
  A. Run the door down and pull the emergency release. See if the door will run easily by itself.

  1. If it runs hard by hand try lubricating the rollers and hinges with silicone spray or some form of lubricant (not WD 40)

  2. If the door is heavy and falls back to the ground, you probably have a spring issue (either broken or needs more tension) in this case call a professional door repair company in your area.

  B. If the door runs fine then check the up force on your operator (the box that hangs from the ceiling and reads Craftsman). If the light(s) on your operator go from front and/or back, the force adjustment screw is on the back of the operator. If the lights are on the sides of the operator then the force adjustment screw is on the right side (looking from the back of the operator and facing the garage door). Turn the light blue adjustment screw with the up arrow to a higher number.

Multi-Function Door Control

Take off the two wires on bad of button and touch together, If it works, buy new panel or doorbell button. If not, make a jumber with a paer-clip and touch W and R terminals. If that works, replace wiring to pushbutton. (Did it ever work? If not Red and White wires may be reversed)

Remote has stopped working

Its possible you held the learn button down too long, this will erase all remotes. The best way to fix this is to press the learn button once and the hold down the button on the remote until the lights blink, you will have to do this with all remotes.
hope this helps.
