Problem with Toshiba 32D46 32" TV

using remote to play video DVD

Entertainment system arrangement: Toshiba 32D46 TV, Onkyo A/V Tuner/Amp, Sony CD/DVD Player, Sony VHS player, Sony Cassette Tape Plaer.
CD/DVD Player plays both audio and video DVDs.
Onkyo A/V Tuner/Amp controls: CD/DVD Player, VHS Player, Cassette Player, and controls TV as monitor for video DVDs.
Problem: When CD/DVD Player powered and in video DVD mode, the DVD is operating correctly and the audio portion of the DVD can be heard, but I cannot get the TV to operate as the monitor for the DVD. I get a black screen or a mostly black screen with some distorion lines.
None of the operating manuals are sufficiently clear on how to get the TV to actually show the video image.
Since the CD/DVD Player seems to be operating correctly, through the A/V Tuner/Amp, which is accurately tracking the DVD operation, it seems the difficulty is how to correctly use the TV remote to actuate the video image for the DVD.
What are the steps/procedure for the Toshiba remote to actuate the picture for the DVD?

You need to bypass your A/V tuner for your video connections (if possible). Plug your video directly into the TV and audio into the tuner. This will also give you a cleaner signal/picture as it does not have to processed by your tuner BEFORE it goes to your tv. Think of it as cutting out the middle man. Your tuner is best left for powering your speaker and not controlling your video despite all of the available connections in the back of it.

I would also get rid of your VHS and cassette players as they are dead technology. Clean up your system and remove the clutter. This will lessen your chance of getting interference. Good luck!!
