    DVD/CD ROM does not open

  • Anonymous Oct 26, 2008

your computer is not recognizing the CD-ROM drive.

  • reapersoft Nov 29, 2008

My issue is similar, seems to happen after running a DVD or CD in the drive for a while. Pushing the button on the drive does not disengage it, neither does selecting eject from Windows explorer.

The solution offered is not viable on the emachine model that I have (its a mini desktop), there is no pin hole for manually opening the drive that I can see.

I contacted E-Machines and they gave me the typical first line support answer and directed me to a link that gives various DVD/CD-Rom solutions. Unfortunately this problem is related to the driver or perhaps some E-Machine hardware problem. I'll keep pinging them but it was $200 bucks so I figure its cheap and I'm not expecting much in the way of support.

I have the a similar problem, except it only happens when I first turn on the computer. I press the button to eject the DVD burner, and I hear it try to open but it does not open. It will take up to five or six tries then it opens, and it does not have any more problems the entire time I have the computer on. I looked for the hole to put the paper clip on but there is none. I just hope that it does not get stuck with a disk in it.

My machine is a W3611 with a DVD burner combo.

DVD/CD-ROM tray keeps opening & closing itself

  • Anonymous Dec 18, 2008

My E- Machines cd-rom drive button seems to be broke.

  • tuttblt Mar 04, 2009

I have the same problem. The unit makes the right sound as if trying to open, but it does not. When the open button is depressed, the flashing disc icon appears with the cursor even though there is no disk inserted.

When the drive does open, it works as if nothing is wrong and continues to do so until the sessions are finished. When I boot up again, the same problem occurs ... every time.

I have resorted to the paper clip.

    What can be done.

    Thanks,

    BT

I thought at first that my E-Machine had no hole to insert the paperclip, but with more lighting, wah-la, there it was. It opens easily when the disk is in.

I have an E-Machinemodel: T6216 and my DVD drive has been stuck closed for some time. I just bought a DVD burner but that doesn't READ discs just burns. So I have looked all over for this supposed pin hole but I don't seem to have one. If pried open it will open but I hate doing that and it takes forever to figure out exactly how I did it last time LOL. Can anyone help?

There should be a small hole on the front panel of the DVD-ROM. Take a paper clip and insert it into the hole and push to open the tray. If the DVD-ROM tray continues to malfunction, you'll need to replace it. DVD-ROMS run anywhere from $25.00 to $75.00.

I emachine dvd rom/burner won't open how can i open it? but before it really do not play any dvd and then now it wont open.

If the door on your CD/DVD drive will not open when you push the eject button (on the front of the drive), Click on Start, My Computer, and Right Click on your CD/DVD drive. Then Click on Eject. If the door still refuses to open, you can insert a paper clip into the small hole on the faceplate of the drive and push it in until the door opens. If the door continues to refuse to open in the normal manner, you will have to replace the drive,

DIsk drive ejects disk tray after 10 or so seconds. It will shut itself again, then eject again. This happens when I put in a DVD, not sure if it'll happen with a CD yet.

Reinstall the driver running it... go to "Device Manager" and right click on the cd-rom icon and select Properties. in that section you will find the options for handling the driver software...

Doesn't open when the button is pushed.

Push it harder. Then try to take your finger nail and underneath the laptop pull on it as you push the button. Restart your computer. Go to your computer and right click the icon on the cd/dvd drive and select eject. I have a Dell and sometimes the button has to be pushed in hard. I hope some of these suggestions help you out and thanks for using FixYa.

On my HP pavilion mx 75 my hp cd--writer will not open any easy fiX?

Hello

Well, if there is a cd stuck in the device, you might fix this problem by force ejecting the cd/DVD.

Here is how we do this:
Take a small pin, push it into the small hole near the eject button on the CD/DVD rom. While doinf this, gently pull out the trey.

If this was a stuck cd, just take it out, if there was no dc/dvd in the rom, it might be a faulty eject button. Test this by going to My Computer, right click on the CD/DVD rom andd choose to eject.

If this does not work, i would suggest thatyou buy a new drive, because it is often much cheaper than to repair.

Let me know if this work.

Kind regards
Andrea

Cant get my cd drawer to open i push the button and it wont open try pushing button and pry at the same time and nothing happens have emachine T3508

with your computer power turned off, use a straight mini-kabob pin (or sturdy paper clip) to manually let out the DVD drive tray. There is a little hole under the drive tray door that accepts this kind of tool device. Another option is to massage the door while trying to eject the DVD drive tray. This method requires your computer to be turned on and by selecting the proper drive (E:) from the My Computer in Start Menu, you then "Eject" and can push in on the door and on the corners, enabling the DVD drive tray to open.

You can eject from My Computer open it right click your dvd drive and select eject or you can insert a pin (sewing needle or safety pin) into the tiny pin hole near the eject button and push lightly this will eject it as well.
