Question about Canon PowerShot A520 Digital Camera
I have a Canon A520. It is aesthetically perfect and was in perfect working condition until last night.
I turn the camera on while the camera is set to view the pictures (blue play symbol) on the memory card and it works perfectly fine.
I then push the switch up to camera mode (from blue play symbol to red camera symbol) and the camera either switches off or "replace batteries" appears at the bottom left of the lcd screen. I have placed several new batteries in and it still asks for new batteries....very strange indeed.
We have a Canon A520 and it was having all the symptoms noted. Searched for a resolution on numerous sites including the Canon Support site. While on the Canon Support site, I found an FAQ on "How to RESET the A520". Turn camera on, find and hold MENU button for 5+ seconds until "Reset settings to default?" screen appears. Arrow over to OK and press the SET button. When we did this the battery low indicator showed, replaced batteries with standard alkaline batteries. Everything functions properly, with no additional problems for the past 5 days. I guess the camera just lost its mind and had to be defaulted and rebooted, hope this helps.

On my canon A520 the zoom lever appears loose and operates erratically, sometimes not working at
all but when moved back and forth it then works again for a short while the problem comes back. when this problem occurs i cannot select stored pictures in photo review mode. also cannot zoom while in picture taking mode.
