Question about Canon PowerShot A520 Digital Camera

2 Answers

I bet you can't solve this.

I have a Canon A520. It is aesthetically perfect and was in perfect working condition until last night.

I turn the camera on while the camera is set to view the pictures (blue play symbol) on the memory card and it works perfectly fine.

I then push the switch up to camera mode (from blue play symbol to red camera symbol) and the camera either switches off or "replace batteries" appears at the bottom left of the lcd screen. I have placed several new batteries in and it still asks for new batteries....very strange indeed.

Mine does that to. I can view my pictures just fine. But after a few seconds, my camera switched off WHILE the lens was still open. When I turned it on, the lens retracted and popped back out again.

The exact same thing happens with my A520.

I can view the pics I took up to just a few days ago.
however when I go to take a pic, the screen is black, if I try to take a pic anyhow, The camera will act as tho it just took a picture, the flash will flash, and there is a brief display on the lcd screen of the view I was aiming at with my camera. when I go to view mode to see the pic I have apparently just taken, there is no pic in the history of shots. even tho the camera acts like it just took a picture.
it seems that the lcd itself is fine, the camera itself functions fine. it seems that the connection between the lense and the camera itself is screwed.
    help!!!
seems a shame, and I don't really want to have to buy a new camera :(

I have the same problem. So what is the solution. Now it is saying that the memory card has no images. Did it erase it all?

We have a Canon A520 and it was having all the symptoms noted. Searched for a resolution on numerous sites including the Canon Support site. While on the Canon Support site, I found an FAQ on "How to RESET the A520". Turn camera on, find and hold MENU button for 5+ seconds until "Reset settings to default?" screen appears. Arrow over to OK and press the SET button. When we did this the battery low indicator showed, replaced batteries with standard alkaline batteries. Everything functions properly, with no additional problems for the past 5 days. I guess the camera just lost its mind and had to be defaulted and rebooted, hope this helps.

On my canon A520 the zoom lever appears loose and operates erratically, sometimes not working at
all but when moved back and forth it then works again for a short while the problem comes back. when this problem occurs i cannot select stored pictures in photo review mode. also cannot zoom while in picture taking mode.

I have a Canon Power Shot A520 and have just put in a new memory card 4GB and new batteries. When I turn on camera is says memory card error at the top of the sceen. Why is that?

The A520 is designed to work with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible.

You need to use SD cards 2GB and smaller.

brother the camera gear system has got problems it seems. it happens due to misplacement of gears inside it.
even tough u can do it manually dont take risk of doing it manually untill u have full knowledge of internal parts. am from chenai. here in our service centre it costs around 1800 rupees for servicing it. so better take it to service centre.
