Then it is failing to read the hard drive. Get into BIOS (usually by hitting F2) before it gives you that message, and once in BIOS, verify that the hard drive is being recognized.

Go to the bios change the boot sequence to hard disk first , if the message appears again, the you have to reinstall the operating system, changing the bios sequence to boot from cd first

SOURCE: my acer netbook wont boot

It should have a USB socket. You will need to first of all try pressing F8 as the laptop is booting and enter the menu that allows you to recover your partition/ If it is corrupt or not available/damaged you will need to, on another PC with the same OS, make a USBdrive/flash drive bootable with your OS on it and boot from there, attempting to recover your old files.
Hope that helps but you may need a service centre/PC repairer to help you.

SOURCE: Gateway GX7022E - When I try to boot it up it gives me a bunch of messages but the last one says insert boot disc. I don't have this disc. What should I do?

Most likely a boot file is corrupted. Youll need to reload from a restore point if you saved any. If not then I suggest to restore from your recovery partition.

How to restore factory settings on a dell inspiron 230 using disk

Hi,
if you want to reinstall OS:
Insert the disk, it should automatically open the install.exe thing and you'll need to follow the instructions.

if you want to restore the computer to factory settings and reinstall OS:
turn off your PC
keep pressing the key for boot menu it's F8 or F12 or F11 depending on the PC's manufacturer.
Then there will be either a boot menu or a "Do you want to do a system restore":
a) system restore, keep pressing the key and it will load. Then follow the instructions
b) if it's boot menu, insert the disk, and then select the option which says to load from the CD/DVD. Then follow the instructions.

NOTE - PLEASE BE CAREFUL, IF MAKE ANY MISTAKE, COMPUTER MAY NOT RECOVER.

Left click as well as enter will not initiate action , only in top portion of screen and only in sign in or out and search, won't take recovery disc, cant go to search in start menu... says files

this is an old PC...it may be that the drive is dead, but you SHOULD still be able to boot from the CD. Try pressing [F12] repeatedly on start-up and see if it will let you manually select the CD/DVD drive to boot from.

Try that disk in another PC and see if it will boot from it.....it may be defective or not actually a bootable disk, (not sure where you got it.)

As far as the defrag issue goes, that was no problem, it aborted the defrag because there was less than 15%.....that being said, you NEED to get some space on that drive as soon as you can access it...though if you're going to just re-format it, never-mind.

Computer screen reads "reboot and select proper boot device, or insert proper boot device"

Do you have a USB drive attached or a disc in the dvd drive that may be causing a problem?
If not your MBR may be damaged.
You can fix this with a windows disc, just google "fix MBR"
If you dont have a windows disc, you may be able fix it with this site http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/forum/windows-xp/27414-repair-mbr-without-xp-cd.html

My laptop keeps saying ntdlr is missing and wont start up what should i do

Check to see if you have inserted any DVD/CDs in the CD/DVD drive or any USB/External storage medium connected to the PC when it is booting. If yes, then try removing them and reboot

If no, then try using the Boot File Repair option on Win7/Win Vista installation DVD.

Cant access disc drive DVD-RW,when i insert any disc including instalation discs it just keeps saying "please insert disc".

Try to reinstall it. Go into Control Panel>System>Hardware and find the drive and uninstall the driver then reboot the computer. If that doesn't work it may need cleaning

Pc keeps trying to start up but states it needs to reboot and won't. I have tried to insert the operation disc and it does not work either

it probably says insert suitable boot device. If you are trying to boot from a cd go into the bios and set the boot device priority to CD as priority. If hard drive then set hard disk to the top.
