I have bought aq maxtor 750gb hard drive and i have got to connecting it and the logo hard drive came on my desk top however iam in safe mode with my lap top as i have had problems recently, before i got the hard drive.There isnt anything coming up on my laptop with software instructions.

Your best bet is to contact maxtor, they will either suggest a diagnostic tool for you to run, and then or will give a code, and then they will decide if they should repair it.
They just might tell you to send it in.
There are programs that can try and repair bad sectors on a hard drive but it depends on how much damage is on the drive.
See what the company will do, and if it will cost you anything besides shipping.
If you don't want them to repair it because of cost, post back and we can give you some tools for repair. They might not work as I said.
So the disk is recognized? And there is a valid partition on the disk? What is the error you are getting? Have a look at this external hard disk troubleshooting, maybe it helps you along.
Try Hirens Boot CD. It has a lot of programs on it to detect format etc. I think your hard drive has a missing or corrupt MBR and it needs to be replaced. When I have had a hard dive not recognized I hve used Super Fdisk to format and reset hard drive. On the boot disk
Go to the seagate website (they bought maxtor) and download the windows version of maxblast. That is if you are using that as a spare. bootable cd rom version if it's not.
