I must turn the screen on for + - 20 times then he finally stays on
There are some electrolytic capacitors in the power supply that need to be replaced. I believe it's 1000uf @25V. They put in 16V caps at the factory and they don't seem to hold up.

I've had a couple of machines with similar symptoms.
The remedy will be one of a few.
Instead of a recovery, you may need to do a full system install.
The most likely problem is the heat sink/fan is getting clogged with debris, thus causing the system to run hot, which includes the video module. Cleaning this out is definitely something that needs to be done regularly in any case.
Also, the lcd cable may be slightly loose where it connects to the lcd.
Finally, it's possible that the video module is going bad... not much you can do about that.
