I think after the installation of the scanner driver and the program you should check for the properties and then again restart the computer. if not re install the whole driver and program for the same. your problem would be solved

I have this problem on my Canon MP210 Scanner that doesn't work! I even re-installed the driver, but nothing worked but the copier works. That mean that the hardware works correctly.

First try a different data cable and a different port. If you use a USB hub or print server, try a direct connection. Check that a known working device can connect to the computer. Check the device manager and power saving settings. What message do you see in the Devices and Printers window (Printers and Faxes for Win XP) for the MP210? What error messages do you for printing and scanning?

For Windows 7, Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager. Look for a triangle with a yellow exclamation point or a red x at the bottom of the list at Universal Serial Bus Controllers. You can try updating the drivers for the USB controller or uninstalling them and then rebooting the machine. (The computer should find and install new drivers automatically. However, you should also check in Windows Update for them (check for new updates - optional and important).) With some computers this could be the result of static at the USB ports. Disconnect all of the external devices and the power cord (computer and the outlet). For a laptop, also remove the battery. Then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then put the battery back in (if applicable) and reconnect all of your cables.

For the power savings settings, again for Windows 7, right click on the desktop (anywhere there are no icons or running programs). Select Personalize. Then click on Screen Saver then choose Change Plan Settings. Next click on Change Plan Settings (for the active plan). Then click on Advanced Plan Settings. Scroll down to USB selective suspend.

Did you install the Canon driver, full software or the OS driver? Can you print any documents? (Sometimes the scanner will not respond but the printer still works.) If you have documents in the print spooler, you may need to stop and restart the spooler. (One way to do this is to launch the Command Prompt window (run as administrator for Vista or Windows 7). Start > All Programs > Accessories > right click on Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator. Type "net stop spooler" without the quotes followed by enter. On the next line, type "net start spooler" again without the quotes and press enter. Now restart the computer.

If the printer works, but the scan buttons do not. If you connected the USB cable before installing the Canon driver, you have a generic driver that may not run the scanner. Uninstall the driver, unplug the data cable and then reboot the computer. Then install the full featured software (if available) from Canon http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp210?selectedName=Specifications#DriversAndSoftware . Next try to scan from the computer. You need to set up the full software with destinations for the scanner buttons and the monitoring program must be running. (If you use the basic driver, the scan buttons will not work. In Windows XP, Vista or 7, you can acquire scans with Paint. File > Import from Camera or Scanner > New Scan. Vista comes with Photo Gallery that can also do this (it can be downloaded for XP and Win7). Vista and Windows 7 also include Windows Fax and Scan to acquire scans.

If the unit still fails to work at the current computer, try connecting it to another (with known working USB ports). If it still fails, then the USB port has failed in the all-in-one. This could be another static issue. With the printer on, unplug the cables (data and power from the printer, outlet and the computer). Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to a minute. If this doesn't help, if the printer is under warranty ask Canon to repair it.

I hope this helps.

Cannot Get Symbol m2004-i290 cyclone to work with Beetle /M

When connecting to a serial port there are a couple of things that could be causing the issue. The biggest problems are usually one of these:
  1. The app does not accept serial data.
  2. The RS-232 settings of the scanner and serial application do not match.
  3. The cable issue.
  4. The data is not using the termination character the application needs.
Are you using a Symbol 25-32465-20 or CBA-R01-S07PAR cable?

If so, do you know for sure your application accepts serial data? The scanner puts the data on the COM port and the application takes it from there. A good test is to try the scanner in Hyper Terminal if you have it. It is usually listed under: Programs>Accessories>Communications.

The M2004 series scanners default to 9600 baud (or bits per second), 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity and no hardware or software flow control.

When starting HyperTerminal you may have to go through a screen that asks for a phone number. Just enter something and click OK to get to the next screen (sorry I can not remember exactly what that screen looks like- once it is set you do not see it again.) Next will be the Connection Description window. You will name the session (name it anything you would like) then click OK. Next is the Connect To box. Select your COM port in the Connect Using box, the first three boxes do not matter. When you click OK a Properties window will open. Most likely you will only have to change the Bits per second to 9600 and the Flow control to None. When you click OK your session should be active. You will have a blinking cursor in the upper left corner and in the bottom left portion of the window you should see the session time counting up. You can now try to scan a barcode. If the data shows up you know the scanner and cable are both working.

If you know your application accepts serial data (Word, Notepad, Excel do not) then it may be the application needs to see a carriage return at the end of the data. The CR is added by scanning Scan Options, Data Suffix, Enter from the M2000 Series Product Reference Guide. Test the scanner. If you still do not get data scan Scan Suffix, 1,0,1,3. Again all of these barcodes are in the M2000 PRG which can be obtained here:

Hopefully this information will be helpful in getting the M2004 working.

I have an LS4071 with an RL474 base. The cable has the PS2 Keyboard end. Scanner gets a good scan but no data goes into the computer. Testing with notepad open to receive the scan.

When I connected this scanner (purchased at a great discount through eBay) to my computer using the keyboard wedge (with a ps2 connection - the round connector) I received the error message that my computer could not recognize this external hardware. I went to barcodediscount.com and ordered the usb connector for this scanner as usb connections are usually recognized. The part # for this connector is STI85-0200R. It cost 72.55 with shipping, but I received the scanner at such a wonderful price that I thought I'd chance it and try it with a usb rather than a keyboard wedge connector.
The computer immediately recognized the usb connection, and the usb connector comes with a manual with codes to enable proper scanning, but still no luck getting the data into the computer. So I called Symbol's technical support department. The technician told me to remove the rubber "boot" at the bottom of the hand held scanner (not the scanner base) by pulling on the front of it (where the 2 little round circles are). It's tough to remove, but keep at it. Then gently remove the battery and unplug it, then plug it back in and reattach the base. He said this would reset the battery. Voila!!!! Sucess!!!!

If your scanner's keyboard wedge connection is recognized (a little popup window will say that it is a Symbol barcode scanner and that it is installed and ready to use), try taking the battery out and putting it back in to reset it. Hopefully this will also work for you. Symbol's technical support # is (800) 722-6234.

Barcode scanner scans and beeps, but will not put the numbers in the computer

There is more than one way for that imager to send data to the computer. Are you using USB, serial, or is there a little box that goes between your existing keyboard and the PC that accepts the scanner connector?
