I have a FF82 model and it is starting to freeze food. there is some frozen water in the bottom. The temp control dial doesnt move. What shoudl I do to fix this.

Temp dial shouldn't have a setting that would freeze your refrigerator side products anyway. Make sure damper to fridge isn't stuck or frozen which cuts off air from freezer to fridge when temp is achieved. If all working properly for sure. Sounds like bad temp control.

The refrigerator and the freezer are staying too cold. The temp controls are at the lowest possible and still things in fridge freeze. I can hear the compressor cycle of for a while then on for a while....

Hi,

things: Most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. A poor working evaporator fan motor could also make the fridge run too long and freeze - replace the fan motor. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out. A misaligned control settings, make sure the air damper and cold control have not been bumped and are out of normal settings. Stuck open air diffusers or air dampers are becoming more and more common for allowing too much air to be blown into the fresh food section and freezing things. On all frost free fridge's the freezer temp air is blown into the fresh food section, if you have "easy" to freeze items ( eggs, veggies in water, etc ) in front of or under where the freezer temp air comes out, they could freeze - store them in a different spot. Doors not closing properly making the fridge run too long is something else to check for.
Hope this will help out.....

Model #rs2556sh. the freezer is working fine, but the fridge doesn't seem to stay cold enough. the temp will go up and down, but there is no change inside. also when u open the fridge side the fan kicks...

the evaporator may be froze over with ice..remove this rear panel and if ice or frost is covering evap..use a hair dryer to defrost the coils. this will give you temp service...there still will be the problem that caused it to freeze up and will continue until repaired. its possible the defrost thermostat is bad or the heater or even the defrost control....Bruce Denton

Check on the cold control if faulty, replace the cold control, not having found any other problem, do check on plastic air deflector at the top rear of the frig had been knocked off. replaced it if faulty. As you know, the deflector directs the freezer air toward the front of the frig and the rear of the cold control, which is now functioning properly.
Good luck.......

STOPPED COOLING AND FREEZING ,ONLY HAD IT SIX MOTHS,BRAND NEW

Hi!!

Check for:

Power to the Unit, (is the light inside fridge coming on?) If not, check for, tripped breaker, outlet and power cord.

Temp.controls, (it is very easy to inadvertedly move controls while cleaning unit) the one for the fridge should be about half way and the one for the freezer should be about one third. (Wait 24 hrs. between checking and adjusting temp settings.)

Don't forget to rate this post, keep me posted if need aditional assistance, Good Luck.

The top part of the refrig keep freezing?

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

OR

The evaporator coil behind the cover on the back wall inside the freezer will ice up under normal conditions. Every 8 to 10 hours for around 20 minutes the defrost timer (or in most newer models the electronic adaptive defrost control) will turn the defrost heater on to melt the built up ice. There is a defrost thermostat which prevents the heater from overheating the freezer by breaking the heater circuit when the temp reaches close to 32 degrees F. The entire cooling system shuts off during the defrost cycle and starts back when the timer advances through the cycle.

If this ice is not melted it will continue to build up until the air can’t flow over the coil to circulate the cold air through the freezer and into the fridge. The temperature change in the fridge is usually noticed first followed by the freezer.

If the defrost thermostat is bad it can prevent the heater from coming on OR it won’t turn the heater off when it gets too warm. It is clamped to the evaporator coil at the top to sense the temp. If it appears to be misshapen it is bad.
With an ohm meter it should show continuity when cold and none when warm.
You can also bypass the thermostat to see if the heater comes on then. If it does then you know the thermostat is bad and needs replaced.

The defrost heater is located on the evaporator. It is in a tube which is at the bottom and can also go up the sides of the evaporator. On some types you can see a burnt spot if it’s bad. With an ohm meter it should show continuity from end to end when disconnected from the wiring in the freezer. You can also test the wiring for voltage when it’s in the defrost mode.

If you have a defrost timer you can test it. It can be located under the fridge behind the kick panel on the front. Some are in the fridge with the controls at the top. You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer because that means the timer is not running. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

If you have an adaptive defrost control instead of a timer, replace it if the heater and thermostat test good. It is located in the fridge with the controls in some models and on the back in others.

Our model is MCBR 415S. The top freezer acts as

You most likely have a bad thermostat control or a bad defrost timer.
Locate the defrost timer, probably inside the temp control panel.Defrost cycles should last 30 minutes then resume freezing.
Manually turn the timer control a 1/4 turn and see if it starts.
If so, replace the defrost control.

It could also be a bad temp control.
If the timer adjustment does not start the fridge. Tap the temp control. It may have stuck contacts.
