Laser assemblies are shipped with a shorting solder bubble. Did you remove it before installation? If not, then the laser is effectively disabled and won't read anything.

On the replacement laser assembly, look for a couple of copper pads that have a solder bridge over them. There should have been a set of instructions with a diagram to show you the location with the replacement optics. The solder bridge will look like a small bubble of solder.

Yep. That will allow the laser to work and you should be ok.

My kenwood D R350 CD player keeps skipping on some but not all tracks. I have tried to CD cleaner but this didnt work, what can you advise

The problem is in the laser pickup assembly, overtime the laser becomes weaker until it can not track properly resulting in skipping and eventually not been able to read the disc. My next step would be to get a CD cleaning kit which you have already done. The only option is replace the assembly which is not cost effective, but far cheaper to buy a new CD player.

I have a kenwood MIDI M-45 /MIDI M-757 audio system. The CD player won't play. The disc loads but error comes up NO DISC, can you help????

The cd unit is not reading the disc, the laser pickup may be dirty, or the pladder motor that cd sits on may be defective. If you can get at the laser pickup lens, clean it with rubbing alcohol with a Q-Tip very carefully in circular motion and allow several minutes to dry.

You need a new laser. Even if a technician turns up the laser power level and it works it won't last more than a few months or so. Time for a new laser or most likely a new unit because that is almost always more cost effective. Good Luck!!

It is the laser, If the cd mech is in the top of this one you may just need to clean the lens manually. Cleaning discs are not all that reliable. You can do this by taking the top off and looking at the area where the disc gets clamped to play. The laser has the small glass lens. That is the part you need to clean. Take a Q-tip and wet it very lightly with some windex or some alcohol. Make it so that the Q-tip is just barely wet. Then just lightly rub the lens without pushing on it hard at all. Just nice and easy over the glass lens. Then dyr it off with the dry end just like you did with the wet end. That's it. close it back up again and turn it on and see if it plays. If it still does not play you need a new laser. No other fix for it.
