Laser assemblies are shipped with a shorting solder bubble. Did you remove it before installation? If not, then the laser is effectively disabled and won't read anything.

On the replacement laser assembly, look for a couple of copper pads that have a solder bridge over them. There should have been a set of instructions with a diagram to show you the location with the replacement optics. The solder bridge will look like a small bubble of solder.

Yep. That will allow the laser to work and you should be ok.

MY CD PLAYER IS NOT PLAYING . NEED HELP

I would assume since it has a cassette player the deck itself is quite old. You can try to buy a CD laser cleaning kit, its essentially a CD with different brushes on them, they were more popular in the 90's and early 00's though so you may have to order them online, or BestBuy sells them for sure. Honestly I feel the kit could be a waste of money, but it may be worth a shot depending on how desperate you are to keep the same radio. If the radio is old, the most likely problem is the laser stopped reading, meaning you need a new radio.Good Luck!

I have a kenwood MIDI M-45 /MIDI M-757 audio system. The CD player won't play. The disc loads but error comes up NO DISC, can you help????

The cd unit is not reading the disc, the laser pickup may be dirty, or the pladder motor that cd sits on may be defective. If you can get at the laser pickup lens, clean it with rubbing alcohol with a Q-Tip very carefully in circular motion and allow several minutes to dry.

Kenwood CD-203 5-Disc CD Changer will not play CDs. It powers up and recognizes a CD within the slot, but it does not read the disc to begin playing.

The laser might be the culpert, be sure its clean by using a swab and a alcohol. If the laser is needed
it could cost approx $75 unless their using a Sony
which might be cheaper!

Kenwood deck cd eject problem

Actually, yes! That could very well damage any unit without a protection mode. Unfortunately, in my long time experience in car audio, a deck that spits cd's out has a damaged or misaligned laser lens. This could be caused by driving to fast through pot holes, speedbumps, or going down train tracks. Find an electronics repair shop locally to see if having it repaired will out weigh a new deck. I found one new in box on ebay for $89 + shipping.

Laser spindle motor. Make sure to get one with the same length shaft - will cost $3 or $4 max and a bit of soldering after removing the drive unit.Or if you can't find one, a new complete laser assembly will have a new spindle motor already fitted - price depends on model of laser.

Toc error

toc error means "table of contents" error... means the player is unable to read the disc at all. May have a dirty focal lense to laser. clean gently with some windex on a cotton wool bud. It may be a faulty spindle motor that spins the disc. the bearings get worn or uneven and do not allow for disc reading to be successful. a check for this is a drop of oil to the bearing. It may then start to read discs, but will still require the motor to be replaced. . Check for the above... but if there is more required, take it to a Kenwood 'Agent... it may need a laser change

Toc error

I have repaired many of these cd players working at an authorized Kenwood service center for over 17 years.

There are only 2 things you can do as the end user of this unit.

1. Try cleaning the disc's. If the cd has any fingerprints or scratches on the inner most part of the cd, the laser will not be able to read the TOC. It is the first thing the cd player tries to do and if that fails for any reason, the disc can not be played at all.
You can purchase a disc cleaning kit, or you can do what I do. I spray a small amount of windex on the data side of the disc and then clean it with a soft cloth like a bath towel or terry cloth. This works as good or better than the cleaning kits and is much cheaper.

If that does not work you can go to the next step.

2.. Clean the lens of the laser with a cd cleaning disc. They can be purchased at many stores that sell cd players and music cd's.
You put it in the player and let it run about 20 to 30 seconds and then you eject it.

If neither of these things help, you most likely have a bad laser pick up. You will need to take it to an authorized Kenwood service center and you can count on the repair being anywhere from $120 to $175. Depending on the rates and the mark-up of the laser pick up.

This is a very good car stereo, and is probably worth the repair cost, but it does have a 2 year warranty. It is not too old, so it may still be under warranty. If so, the repair is free for you.

I hope this helps you with this problem, and if so, a good rating is always appreciated.

Let me know if you have any other questions about it.

Stopped playing cd`s

Lots of options- listen to it- see if the disc is being spun. If so, either the laser died, the lens is dirty (not too likely if suddenly happened) or some bump or kick has shot the allignment. most of these are a biggish prob, except if you are a handy person, you could get inside and clean the dust off the laser lens with a cotton bud. The hard part is cleaning the mirror and the back side of the lens! BE CAREFUL not to mix up the allignment- this is a very critical mechanism of the player!

TOC Error

I had the same problem with my KDC-M7024 CD player. All I done was put a cleaning disc into the player and let it play for 2-3minutes. The disc has a small cleaning brush on it which spins around like a normal CD would and as the bristles pass over the laser it removes any dust. After that it worked fine but i still have to run the disc through every 3-4 months or the problem persists.
