Question about Gateway DC-M40 Digital Camera
I have had this problem, tried the new batteries idea (no go m), then thought-lens is out, should be in??
Give the lens a gentle pull & it should burst into life. Lens & cover gets stuck what do doapart from back to shop idunno. Tapping camera on table to shut lens cover seems to work but not a very technical solution

I had the same problem, firstly you will be able to press the button on the back to view your pictures, when you do and the camera powers up quickly press the menu button. Check that your battery settings are set to alkaline, then buy some good alkaline batteries and not cheap ones. Check that they are alkaline and not like what I did and bought panasonic zinc carbon.
This worked for me and mine would not turn on either until i changed the batteries to a good make.

My camera had not been used for 8 months and i had this problem the lens stuck in the zoom position and when i swithed the camera on it bleeped three times and switched off gently push the lens against something flat and soft and at the same time swith it on ,after the 3rd time the lens started to go in via the motor it is now working great ,only push as you switch on the button as if it starts to bleep it has stopped trying and you could damage lens
