Re: add/remove programs want opening on my pc
Populating the list could take ages, you should leave it for at least 5 minutes. Instead of using the windows utilities, try CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/). Its a great utility for cleaning useless things off your computer like temporary internet files and logs. Also supports registry error cleaning and Supports Uninstall and Startup.
You may have damaged the drive by dropping it or bumping it while writing data. You may have Placed it near a strong Magnet or a Virus has infected it and destroyed the file system. Inside one of those drives is a 2.5" Hard drive. You could take it to a data recovery shop and see what they could do for you. Hope this teaches you a lesson: Always have 2 copies of your files.

Now that the kids have left for college, the need for parental controls on the family computer is no longer necessary. If you're stumped as to how to remove the web-blocking software, don't worry. It's an easy process no matter if you use a Windows- or Mac-based operating system.
To Remove Parental Control Software from Windows XP b> Click "Start" and then open up the "Control Panel". Click on "Add or Remove Programs". Wait for the program list to populate. Scroll through the list and identify the monitoring web software such as NetNanny, WebWatcher or similar. Click on the web monitoring software. To the right of the highlighted software is a button that says "Change/Remove", or two buttons, one "Change" the other "Remove". Click the appropriate button that will remove the web blocking software. If you get a pop up asking if you wish to continue, click "Yes". The Windows Add/Remove utility will proceed automatically from this point on. b> To Remove Parental Control Software from Vista or Windows 7 b> Click "Start", then open up the "Control Panel". A new window will open up, select "Programs and Features". The heading will now read "Uninstall or Change a Program". Scroll through the list until you find the web blocking software you wish to remove. Select program. The action "Uninstall" will appear next to the word "Organize" in the bar above the program list. Select "Uninstall". Click Yes when the message box pops up asking if you're sure you want to uninstall the parental controls program. The uninstall utility will take over from there. b> To Remove Parental Controls on a Mac b> Open the "System Preferences" folder. Select "Accounts" under the "Systems" header at the bottom of your screen. Select the user account name from which you wish to remove parental controls from the left hand column. Uncheck "Enable Parental Controls".
1.Go to the Add or Remove Programs section of the Control Panel. In Windows 7 you will find this just below the address bar when you open my computer.
2. On the Add or Remove Programs make sure to show updates
3. When the list has been populated, scroll down until you find the Internet Explorer section
4. Remove/uninstall Internet Explorer 9 leaving the Internet Explorer 8 on the list
5. After completing the removal, reboot your computer
You should now have Internet Explorer 8 active on your system.
A reinstallation of the program will fix this. First go to Start and then select Control Panel. In Control Panel open Add & Remove Programs, or Programs and Features (depending on your operating system). Let the window populate, then scroll down and click on Skype and Uninstall it. Once it is fully uninstalled go to http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/home and click on Get Skype at the top of the page to download and install the program again.
I have seen this happen many times. You just have to wait (sometimes a very long time) before it populates itself. Adding more RAM to your computer will also speed this up. Just let it sit there and load for a while.
