UNABLE TO CONNECT TO MY PC

I am not sure this machine has an automatic Scan to PC option. Brother seems to like to avoid this part of most machines. Depending on your Operation System you will still be able to access the scanning system. The operation system would define which method it uses. Win XP you can access the scanner through the Printers and Faxes option on the start menu. Go to printers and faxes and then from there access scanners on the sidebar. Find your machine and open the inbuilt scanner software to scan your photos and save them to your computer. Then e-mail the saved files.

You have to download and install the full feature package
for your windows system to make the scanner work on your pc.

When you have downloaded and installed the software
click on Hp solution center and select scanner options.

Down load it here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3382185&

Remember to select the system you are running 32 or 64 bit.

Hope this was helpfull.

Can't get the scanner to scan

HP units typically scan BEST when operated through the computer, rather than the unit itself. You MUST have the software installed on the machine, and not use plug and play, as that only gets "some stuff" going, specifically NOT scanning, I have found.

Go to HP.com and download the latest install directions, for your printer and OS. You may have to delete the old printer on your system, but, follow the directions exactly, from HP and plug the machine into your computer when directed to do so.

THEN run the scanner from the software installed on the computer, tons easier....

As a side note, next printer (all in one) should be a network printer, works TONS easier, with each computer allowed to scan, etc., like they hosted the unit. Can also be accessed wirelessly, all for the same money..... Cool.!

I AM NOT ABLE TO SCAN DIRECTLY TO PDF FROM MY HP 4255 ALL IN ONE PRINTER

Scan directly using Adobe software from computer

  • 1 Position the first page of your document on the flatbed scanner and close the lid.
  • 2 In Adobe Acrobat, under the File menu, choose "Create PDF", then "From Scanner" and then "Custom Scan."
  • 3 In the Scan dialog box, choose your configuration settings. This will vary based on the nature of the document you wish to scan (e.g. color or black & white, images or text).
  • 4 Click "Scan."
  • 5 When the scanning process is complete, Acrobat will ask you if you wish to scan more pages into the file. If you do, position the next page on the flatbed scanner and click "Scan More Pages." Otherwise, click "Scan Is Complete."
  • 6 Repeat the above steps as necessary to scan a multi-page document.

I have a cannon printer that I always could scan with my old computer. I have a new laptop and I don't know how to make it scan now.

Yeah, something changed and some older scanners do not work with new OS and hardware. Fortunately new printer/scanners are not very expensive. I think the programming standards changed in terms of scanners. One cool option of new stuff is wireless printing and scanning, so this means that you no longer have to go to the host (sharing ) system to scan, but you can scan and control from the laptop. I prefer HP. Set up works fairly easily, but you do need to have access codes for your router. FOLLOW install directions EXACTLY, and specifically NOT plug an play.

I am trying to figure out how to use my Brother MFC-8440 scanner. I would like to use it to scan documents to email out. When I go to Brother.com and look at the direction book, it doesn't have directions...

It is part of the Network User's Guide (section 10) and the Software User's Guide (section 3 for a PC using Windows, Section 8 for network scanning), not the User's Guide. The directions below are for XP and Win2K primarily. Slight changes may exist with other OS versions. (Full software is not available for Win7 so the buttons on the unit will not work. You will need to launch scans from the computer only. You can use Windows Paint or Fax and Scan without needing third party software. Then attach the file to an email either in the email software or by right clicking on the file and choosing Send to Mail Recipient.)

For either use, put the document face down on the glass or face up in the ADF.

If you use a directly connected computer, you need to set the destination for the Scan to E-mail in the Control Center (section 4-4 in the Software User's Guide). Open this program and make sure the correct machine is in the drop-down menu. This program needs to be running to hear the buttons being pressed. Click on E-mail to set which program will get the scanned document as an attachment for your e-mail. You can also set the resolution and type of attachment. If you do not want to use available file formats, you will need to scan in PaperPort (or other software) and then use that to attach the file to the e-mail. Then click Scan to launch the scan from the unit. Hit Set when ready to send.

If you have the unit set up on the network, then you can enter the LAN setup in the Front Panel (or a browser). Hit Menu 6 (and then the appropriate number for the next feature), such as TCP/IP, DHCP or Static IP (these are under 1), SMTP, POP3, Mail Address (Menu 6 2). Setup the Scan to email with Menu 6 7 1 for color and Menu 6 7 2 for black and white.

This automatically sends the item to the email server or PDF as either a PDF or JPEG. Then you need register the PC that will get the file to the unit, if you use scan to email (PC). (Your version of Windows will matter for exactly where the information is: Control Panel > Scanners and Cameras or Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Scanners and Cameras.) Right click on the icon for the unit and select Properties to see the Network Properties box. Go through all of this set up including the Scan To Button. Then the Control Center will launch the e-mail program when it "hears" you press Scan, select Scan to Email, press Set, then choose PC and press Set again. (or select the destination PC which has e-mail access and press Set again). Scanning will start.

If you have set the POP3 and SMTP servers and the unit can directly access them, then you can scan to e-mail and enter the recipient address. Press Scan, select Scan to Email, press Set, choose Email Server and Press Set again. Adjust the scan quality as desired pressing Set at each step. Once you go through all of the layers, the LCD screen will prompt you for the recipient's email address. Then press Start.

    I hope this helps.

    Can't scan to computer

I am not an expert, only a c7280 user. I use my printer wirelessly and was having problem scanning when using the controls directly on the printer (scan menu). By trial and error, I tried scanning by going to HP solution center on my computer and just followed the directions from the scan menu. That worked. If you can print wirelessly, you can scan wirelessly. I agree the HP support is a huge waste of time. I only get mad talking to them.

    Scanner issues

Well you should make sure you have the Dell All in One printer installed from the CDs. If you can acess the Dell All in One Center from the start menu, then its installed.
If they are installed then you should place anything in the scanning area, hit the menu button on your printer and scroll up to scan then hit start. 90% sure that it will work if not then you'll have to hit it again maybe.
If you can see the image from the dell all in one center, on the right it says "Scan to: (or something similar)" with a drop down menu, hit the down arrow on the menu and then hit file, hit scan now and then you'll be prompted to pick the file location where you want to save it.
    Hope this helps.
