Sharp XR 10X lamp replacement issues

I replaced the lamp in my XR-10x due to age. A while back the projector refuesed to come on, and the lamp light flashed (Don't know the color, I am colorblind) I assumed the bulb had given up the ghost, as it was nearing the end of the 3000 hour cycle.

I finally replaced the bulb this evening, after putting the new one in VERY carefully following what little instructions that I have, I powered the unit back up, the power light comes on, the lamp light flashes 14 times, takes a 7 second break, and does it again. This cycle repeats for approx 8 cycles, then the power and lamp lights flash wig wag style for a short while.

I am unable to get the projector to power back on and light the bulb.

Not sure if I have a bad bulb, or if the projector has failed out on me. I am in dire need of this for a presentation this coming Sunday. any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem, except we've never replaced the lamp.

The flashing light scheme as described is accurate - the colors are green at first, through the 14 flashes. Then the middle LED turns red, and the wig-wam flashing is green for the power LED, red for the middle LED. Once the lights burn steady, they are both red.

During the 14 flash sequence, I can hear the lamp module trying to power on, but unsuccessfully (a momentary whir, which repeats at intervals).

Hate to buy a new bulb if it is the ballast or some such...

I have the exact same problem with a new bulb that I bought. The new bulb worked for about 4 hours and then when I went to turn it on again I got the same exact problem. I would love to know how to fix this. I dpn't really want to buy another bulb to find out it was something else.

I have the EXACT same problem as the original poster... I'm stuck... just forked out $300 on new OEM bulb, carefully handled the bulb installation like a surgeon and still got nothing!!!! The lights just flash every 7 seconds or so then after about 5 minutes or so of alternating between green solid and flashing states, the power and lamp leds both turn solid red forever until i unplug. Putting the plug back in restarts the fiasco

Same problem here. Have emailed Sharp support for an answer. They want to charge huge prices if you send the projector in. Mine is out of warranty. If I understood or recall correctly, I pay shipping, $50 diagnosis, $300 lamp, and $125 to install the lamp.

Now if my bulb is bad, just tell me. I assume this projector just doesn't randomly put out this code of flashing lights for nothing. Yes 14 green lamp, yes attempts to start, yes ends in double red lamps. I just want someone to tell me what all this means in a nutshell, or explains why it doesn't mean something.

Still searching for a solution. Sharp XR-10X projector.

PS: Mine did start in a shade of blue and held for about 10 minutes. When I went to the menu to hit reset, the projector went dark. Fan cooled as usual. I'll let you know what they say. Sending it in seems way to expensive. Trying to learn my options to make a reasonable choice here. What fun.

I have the same problem as well. Been doing some research on this, and I'm assuming it is the ballast. Not sure how to fix it, or how much a new one costs.

I sent mine in. They changed the bulb and cleaned the unit. The one thing they did suggest that seemed helpful was to upgrade the firmware. They did this as part of the service. That may be your problem, but I don't know that the firmware is upgradable. Yes indeed, they do charge an outrageous price!! I went through Sharp because they would guarantee the work, and I didn't want to buy two bulbs.

Problem with Sharp XR-10X The power light blinks red

According to the manual, a red blinking light indicates that the lamp cover is open. Try reseating the lamp and making sure everything closes up right. If the light is still blinking, it is most likely a problem with the projector itself and you may need to find out about getting it serviced.

Just replaced bulb when cold it has trouble lighting.

it's not the lamp, it's the ballast. when it's fully discharged, it needs too much power to start. once it has the caps charged (when it's been running and warm), it'll start right away. it sounds as if the capacitors on the ballast are drying up. best to replace the ballast. after you do, make sure the projector is free of dust and dirt. excessive dust will cause premature power and lamp failure due to lack of cool down.

New bulb in now wont work - no power - wont turn on to reset lamp

first, make sure you have the correct lamp. the lamp for the xr-10x-l looks like the xr-10x, but the plugs are different (common mistake). make sure you have the AN-XR10L2/1, not the AN-XR10LP/1. to reset the lamp timer (with the projector plugged in but off), hold down the enter, down arrow, and menu buttons and press the power.

Colour wheel

the color wheel is a rotating, multicolored glass disk that the lamp light shines through, and where the image gets it's color. you can see it through the window in the lamp housing with the lamp removed. as long as the projector is cleaned out and free of dust and excessive heat, the colorwheel should be one of the last parts to fail.
