1.One thing you can do is press and hold on F8 after power on then select Safe Mode. This way, you would be able to go the desktop. You can do a system restore instead of system recovery (like reformat and reload OS and original programs). To do system restore, you can go to start-all programs-accessories-system tools-system tools-system restore. Select a date when your laptop was working properly. This will restore the software changes beyond that date but will not affect your personal data like your pictures. Be sure not to interrupt the process so please plug in the ac adapter and wait for laptop to restart itself and give the message that the system restore was completed successfully.

2.If the system restore did not work, you can save your files to a disk when using Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking then you can do the system recovery using the recovery disk that came with your laptop or that you made (if you have the hidden partition which is present if you have the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator program, note that this is different from Toshiba Disk Creator.)
Hope this helps. Thank you.

I see. If you are not able to boot in safe mode then the only way to recover your personal files is to take your laptop to a repair center authorized by Toshiba and let them recover your files for a charge. But if you think it is okay to loose those files, we can just do the system recovery by loading the first disk, turning laptop off, press and hold F12 immediately after power on, select CD/DVD drive from the boot selection menu, select Recovery Wizard after Windows loaded the files - Recovery of Default Software - Recover to the Out of the Box State - ok - please connect the ac adapter so that it will not be interrupted. You will be prompted to load the disk 2 after the first one. The whole process will take around 1 hour and it should work after that. Just press on the power button to turn laptop off if the boot selection menu did not come out during the first or so attempts (after F12). Hope this helps. Thank you for the rate. Please ask some more if you have to.

Qosmio f60 fan goes on high speed and freez. It keep freezing. The only way to reboot it is to hold down the power button to turn it off and then turn it back on.

I have the same "computer" qosmio f60. I've replaced the hard drive, installed a new window 7 OS, changed RAM paging, power options, run the things with a fan pointed at the computer fan.
The fan goes to high speed and the HDD LED unblinking. I've brought the laptop to two computer shops whose owners knew less about computers than I did. I tried to go to a Toshiba recommended shop in Toronto except they changed to Apple-service only. I tried phoning Toshiba, they just want to change 4 bucks a minute for technical assistance. I've had this Toshiba-thing going on 3 years with the troubles starting after the first year. No one cares about this problem. If I see a Toshiba factory I'm going to chuck this red brick of cra through the window.
BTW it's not a virus or rootkit. I had to learn how to partition a HDD sector through some crazy BIOS program before installing windows. There's no virus or rootkit that's causing this problem.
It's mostly been freezing on me with games.

My laptop will randomly freeze every 20-30 mins, i have no viruses i have wise registry booster and wise registry disk cleaner, it was working perfectly then the next morning i turn it on it starts...

It is also important to remove the suspicious applications and programs in the computer to avoid Windows freezing. In this type of infection not only your Windows registry gets corrupted and needs massive repair but also there is virus based penetration in the Windows set up. In this situation it is recommended to conduct a virus scan as well. However, if your Windows freezes up, the best solution is to repair the computer registry.use registry cleaner reginout

Start menu freezing

This sounds like you may have a virus running up cpu time or a trojan of some sort, try running a virus check Antivir is a good free virus cleaner, also run spybot search and destroy to look for spyware. sometimes viruses attack windows system files to keep you from being able to get rid of them.

I Think Your Ribbon Cable May Be Damaged.
If Its Still In Warrenty Send I Back . If Not Take It To A Repair Shop And Get It Looked At.
Or You Could Just Format It And Install A fresh Version Of Windows. (Not recommended if you dont know what you are doing)

Windows could not start because following files are missing or corrupt /WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM

You will need to re-install Windows. You may have gotten a virus. Even if you re-install Windows, you will need to scan for viruses.

Freezing up

I think you need to do a power cycle. remove the battery and use tha AC adapter alone. If it boots, then thats good. U can try also booting on safe mode by pressing F8. Then re start the notebook in normal mode. If it wont works then i think u need to reinstall windows as a last resort. U need to use TOSHIBA RECOVERY DISK this time.

:( LAPTOP wont start

First ensure that the problem you have explained is due to a VIRUS or Laptop related.Remove the hard drive from your laptop and turn it ON and check if it remains ON until you SWITCH OFF, if yes then you could install MS Win XP or any OS supported and download the drivers for the OS from the manufacturer's web site and install them all one by one . It definitely would work

Virus?

J-nine, It certainly looks like you have one...Download spybot and adaware. And run them and your updated virusscanner in safe mode, so the adware will not start up with windows. Please let me know how you make out.
thanks.
