Problem for Nikon Coolpix 3200 Digital Camera

Two weeks ago, I was in a boating accident during which my top-of-the-line digital camera became innundated with salt water. It died on the spot. I have sent it into the manufacturer for evaluation, but have not received the verdict.
Question 1: Is salt water progressively corrosive? I.e. is the corrosion going to worsen the longer the camera sits without attention?
Question 2: How likely is it that the camera is completely dead with no hope of repair?
Question 3: If the camera is repairable, what is the likelihood that there may be future unseen damage due to the current problem?

About the only thing I can think of that would be more corrosive than salt water would be acid. The corrosion WILL worsen if not removed right away. Depending on how much you paid, I would suspect that repair will be costly, and might be more than the camera's value (if it can be repaired). If they do repair it, I'm sure that they will make sure that the salt is removed entirely.
