Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Whirlpool dishwasher The dishwasher works off and on. Every few days it stops going on altogether...only the cancel button goes on and the the dishwasher's timer says 2 minutes. Sometimes the air dry button works, but none of the other buttons work. The problem has been when the repair person comes out, it all of a sudden starts to work and so he can't diagnose the problem. I spoke with someone who said it sounds like with the touch pad or computer control board is bad. You don't seem to list my exact model no. which is GU1500XTLB2, serial no. FP3304L5 I have the same machine GU1500XTLB2 with the same problem. If I turn the power off at the breaker and wait at least an hour, the machine will start normally when power is restored. Doesn't sound like a water temp issue to me. Sounds more like a cantankerous control circuit board. I would like some confirmation before spending $85 - $100 on a new board

Hi there,

your problem is intermittent and before you start replacing parts, i would recommend that you do these checks:

unplug the dishwasher from the wall
check the connection between the touchpad, which is attached to the front panel & the control boad behind it.
also check the control board for any corrosions, kinks or burns
check the wiring harness connected to the board for the above as well
check the door latch to see if the door is closing correctly, as sometimes the switch inside the door latch does not make full contact for the door to shut.

replug the machine back and watch for the next couple of days. if the problem still persists, i would replace the keypad first.

Whirlpool Dishwasher will not start

Contact appliance repairman,

sounds like either a control problem, or the is a problem with the solenoid that opens up to let water in the dishwasher at initial start.

'clean' light flashes

Press the normal wash then heated dry buttons in the same sequence two to three times. The unit will enter diagnostics mode, but can be stopped by pressing the cancel button. It will clear any existing faults and makes the dishwasher to operate normally.

To prevent the issue from recurring, run your hot water faucet first to ensure that hot water is present in the entire supply line before starting the filling.

Whirlpool Dishwasher won't drain during normal cycle

As you say a clogged line or valve does not make sense.

Try running it without the heated drying and see if it empties or if the cancel button will work then.

The dishes should air dry quickly if you empty it and open the door.

It could be a defective thermostat allowing it to get too hot during the heat cycle

The only button that works is the cancel drain

Sounds like a keypad malfunction or the control board has gone bad.

Whirlpool dishwasher won't start

I have had the same problem with my dishwasher. I.e., the buttons don't respond (no LED) when you press them. Only the "Cancel/Drain" light works and the dishwasher reacts to cancel/drain. I found a diagnostic in the kick panel that has you press; "heated dry, normal, heated dry, normal" within 6 seconds and the washer goes through a diagnostic. All of the tests perform as they should and at the end the washer works again. I don't know why unless doing this resets the circuit board. Does anyone know?
