Question about Whirlpool Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Gas range - top burners and oven used to work fine. Starting last week they just had low flame but now do not light. Oven set for 350 will only heat to 250. Nothing has been changed in the kitchen.

This turned out to be more than a range problem. The next day when we tried to use the furnace it would not come on and there was no hot water. The Gas company told me the line to the house needed to be replaced, but even after the plumbers did that there was still no gas coming through the line. The Gas company had to come back out and dig up their line out by the street to fix the problem on their end.

Glad I had insurance on the line and it didn't cost me anything.

Hi Brian,

you possibly have 2 separate things going on at the same time here but may be due to the same part.

since this is a gas stove, it contains something called a spark module, which lights the igniters and subsequently the burners. can you hear a clicking sound when you turn the elements on?

as for the oven, it doesn't look like it's going to temperature either. that could be due to the spark module as well.

I just got my (new to me) pre-1990 Wolf 36'' range connected (by a certified pro). 4 burners, 12'' fry top/charbroiler/cheesemelter thingie on left, 4 burners on right, 29'' oven - propane. It has not been...

the oven pilot has 2 setting first setting is for you to light small flame, should not be all yellow if it is it has a dirty orifice inside the pilot hood, you can remove this by disconnecting the pilot line from the hood and removing orifice for cleaning, just rub it with a cloth.once clean and replaced you light pilot and check it out. if its ok turn on oven and secondary pilot will ignite that why it got bigger!! this heats a flame sensor to allow 100% safty vavle to open to let gas into burner so yuo can cook.

Broiler works, oven settings - no flame, no heat.

Hi, it sounds like the oven ignitor might be bad. Remove the floor panel inside the oven and you will see the ignitor attached to the burner assembly. Turn the oven on and see if it glows. You can test the connection for the ignitor and see if it gets 120V to it. The most common problem with the gas oven is the ignitor. Most of the time, the ignitor glows but is not strong enough to open the gas valve.
Please let me know if this was helpfull or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Gas oven dosnt work

the pilot light is there for 2 purposes. number 1 to light the burner and number 2 to heat up the thermocouple, thermocouple is a wire that the flame from pilot suppose to surround by fire. if the pilot is to low it will not reach the thermocouple. you can take the gas line that supplies gas to the pilot and clean it with a safety pin or a small needle. you can test the thermocouple by heating it up with a blow torch on low heat, get it red hot and then turned on the oven. if the oven works clean the pilot, if the oven do not work, replace the thermocouple if separate from safety valve. if thermocouple is part of it replace the safety valve.

GE XL44 heating issue

I have not seen a regulator issue on a gas range, other than if one was not converted when Nat to LP gas (or vise versa) was done. At this point a repair person may have to be called to use a manometer to check gas pressures. They will check pressure at the oven burner orifice with at least one top burner on. The range does not have more than one burner setting. It's either on or off. For this issue, you may have the best luck contacting your gas supplier.

Amana gas range bake burner does not heat

Pull the bottom of the oven off. You will see 2 to 4 screws that hold the panel on. The ignitor is under there. Look at the ignitor carefully for breaks. I say carefully as the ignitor is very easy to break.

Oven heat

The problem with you oven is the FFD (flame faliure device ) also known as FSD (flame safety device) The way is works is that when an oven is ignited first time the heat from the low level flame heats phail at the end of the calliary tube which in turn increases the pressure within this tube forcing open the FSD valve to open allowing full gas through. when this fails it restricts the amount of gas flowing through it leaving the oven with a small flame. these are easily repalaced but the law says it must be done by a corgi registered engineer for gas safetey reasons...But 110 % that is your fault. Sounds like that ignitor is weak.  When the ignitor glows it builds up resistance to the gas valve for gas to come in.  If it sometimes takes 10 min then the proper resistance isn't there and this will give you that gas smell.  Replace the ignitor and this should solve your problem.  Can expect to pay $80 - $100 for the part.
