Question about Gateway PC Desktops

Need recovery disc/drivers for Gateway computer model GT5694. Computer wend down, "Geeks" at Best Buy said there is nothing wrong with the computer just the software messed up. I reloaded the operating system but some of the software and drivers are not available: Driver for wireless internet, graphics card. Also Microsoft works not available. Took computer back to Best Buy where they told me I should get a "Recovery" Disc from you (Gateway)

To your concern, pls start here. You would need to enter the serial number of your unit to be able to enter Gateway's Drivers & Download.

Sorry to say we're not tech support for gateway so we cannot provide you the recovery disc that you're looking , it will be better if you contact them and ask for the recovery disc this is the number
1-800-846-2301...

Hello, you would need to contact the manufacturer of your computer. They can either send you the recovery disc or provide you with other options.

What is this card in my GT5694 in the PCI Express slot?


Sounds like a LAN card, you know internet, should have a port that looks like a phone line or RJ-45, which is a cable line for internet.

Onboard and cards for a LAN, have these lights, the link is for internet activity.

There is nothing needed in a PCI slot to run a PC, the only thing would be a graph card, and that is easy to tell because it has a graph plug or your monitor is plugged into it. A VGA port.

Besides this, no. But it is not slowing down the PC, or hurting anything.

Do not touch it or remove it unless you power down, unplug the power, hit the power button twice and make sure the PC lights don't flash.

Then touch metal just before you try and remove the card.

How do i hook up the speakers to my GT5694


Use the green 3.5mm port on the sound card for speakers. The speakers usually daisy chain or merge on the sub woofer . It depends on how many speakers you have.

Need recovery disc Compaq Presario SR1500NX


It's easy to get the Restoration Disk/s for an HP computer, Margaret.

May be able to guide you on here with repairing your computer also, and leave the 'GEEKS' at Best Buy to twiddle their thumbs, and make money off of someone else.

On the back of your Compaq Presario SR1500NX Desktop PC, is a white sticker.

You need to write down the Serial Number, to give to the nice representative on the phone, for HP Support.

When you receive the Restoration Disk/s, turn the computer on, put the disk in the optical drive's tray. (CD/DVD Drive)

Drive closed let the disk load.
WHEN asked click on - Repair (Non-Destructive Installation)

This will repair the basic Windows files.

IF, you have a virus, AND cannot get rid of it, you'll have to take the computer back to Day 1, when it came from the factory.

This will be a Full Install. (Destructive Installation)

NOTE*
ALL of your personal information, AND any programs you have installed, will be GONE!

The computer will be back to Day 1 from the factory, and before you put anything on it.

Can i use my emachine recovery disk on my gateway after i install a new hard drive on my gateway?


No, you can't. (Well, it might be possible, but very unlikely, that it would work.) Recovery discs are made for specific machines. There are a couple of reasons why the discs for one system can't be used for another brand or model.

In addition to installing the operating system (Windows), recovery discs also include drivers for the machine's included hardware (video, sound, media card slots, etc.). The drivers on the recovery disc for an eMachines system won't have what a Gateway system needs, unless they were built using exactly the same motherboard and other parts, which would be quite unusual. If wrong hardware drivers are installed, Windows may not start and give you the famous "blue screen of death". Or Windows will start, then begin finding new hardware and asking you for drivers you won't have (although you could find them at the Gateway website). The discs also include the applications the manufacturer preloaded on the system. Some of these may not work and cause problems because of the hardware differences (a sound control program with the wrong sound hardware, for instance).

The other reason is that a restore disc also includes information that gets placed into Windows so the system comes up already activated and ready to go. Activation is based on information about the hardware configuration of the system, and yours won't be correct. Windows will see the this and you'll need to activate manually. If the Windows version on the eMachines recovery disc isn't exactly the same as the one on the Gateway, the product key on the computer won't work when you try activation.

Rather than try using the wrong recovery disc, see if you can borrow or download the installation disc for the Windows version specified on the product key sticker on the Gateway. Then you can do a clean new Windows installation and activate it using the product key. You can find the drivers your computer needs at Gateway's website as I mentioned before. It's more work than just running the recovery disc, but it will work. This does mean the system won't have any of the preloaded applications originally on the computer when you're finished. But this is not a bad thing.

Much of the preloaded stuff on a new computer is often called "bloatware", which you really don't need. It just slows the computer down, uses up Windows resources, and may be gathering information and sending it to sites behind your back. You can find good free programs to do anything originally installed and install only what you really need and want. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

CD/DVD burning: CDBurnerXP
Antivirus: AVG, Avast!
Audio processing: Audacity
Image processing: GIMP
Office suite: OpenOffice

usually if you dont get a recovery disc with your laptop you would then use those discs to reload the system from scratch. the other is that you would have to create recovery discs as soon as you started using the laptop. if the sales person did not make you aware of it then he is a very bad sales person. the other solution would be to go to the web-site of the manufacturer of the laptop and under the support section or drivers and downloads you will find drivers and recovery disc image or iso or a self extracting file which you will then have to copy to disc then use the created disc to reload the system

Hi, im trying to install windows 7 ultimate onto my gateway. I bought it retail from best buy and am having problem with the install... is it factory set for me not to be able to install an operating...


If you bought a full retail version and not an upgrade, you may need to do a fresh installation of windows. You also need to make certain that your gateway model is able to upgrade to windows 7. Checking your computer's support page, there are no BIOS updates available. Your computer should be fully capable of upgrading to windows 7 from windows Vista. ALso looking at Gateway's support page for this model, there are no drivers offered for Windows 7. All drivers offered are for windows Vista. I have seen computers in the past that will not tolerate an operating system change from the system that was installed at the factory.

If you have a restore partition, you can back up your data, and do a clean install of windows after formatting your hard drive. You may also want to make recovery disks for your computer in case the Win 7 will take on your computer or you cannot get your hardware to work with Win 7 since Gateway offers no Win 7 drivers.
Good luck. Take precautions to back up data and be able to revert to your original factory settings if necessary.

Yesterday my friends emachine ET1331G-03w just bought 2 months ago, due to microsoft software updates issues upon restarting her computer won't start windows due to problem above, we tried to do f8 on...


As the computer is only 2 months old, you should be able to contact Emachines and have
them send you a recovery disc out for the particular model. As the computer may seem identical, in most cases a recovery disc from your computer will not work because of a different
driver or some other small issue.
