Question about IBM ThinkPad T40 2373 Notebook
The first thing that started happening was that the screen would go black with the computer on. I had to restart the computer and it would boot up fine. But after using it for a little bit the same thing would happen.
Next I noticed that if you pushed down too hard where your palms rest when you're typing, the screen would black out. It would work as long as I was very careful not to move the laptop around too much. It had to be an a solid table. Eventually it wouldn't turn on at all.
I just tried it again (it's been sitting for months) and it booted up. I was working for a little while. I pushed down on it to see what would happen. The computer froze up and when I restart it, the monitor stays black.
IBM's are famous for this ...that's why they've changed their keyboard configurations so frequently, because palm pressure would either a) prematurely damage the hard drive or b) cause problems with the AC/DC card (IBM's term, not mine).
My guess, since I used to repair IBM laptops for a living, is the AC/DC card. It directly controls video output to the LCD. You can probably find one "pulled" on eBay for around $50, and probably $50-100 for someone to install it for you.
Hope this helps - remember to rate! :)
