I had bought a used Oreck and to my dismay has stopped working. My dad being a mechanic in every form took the vacuum apart and wants to know how the fan attaches to the motor. He says the fan is stripped to the motor....Not sure but he was hoping I could obtain a wiring manual. I noticed you recently sent a copy of one to another person. I was hoping you wouldn't mind helping me. You can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org Thank you!

I have a Oreck XL and the propeller that is in the housing will become hard for the moter to turn. I have took it apart and do not see a problem, but when I reinstall the parts it will run for about 15 sec. and the moter will stop turning. When the propeller housing is off the motor turns ok and doesn't stop. Do I need a new propeller/housing?

Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Oreck XL Ultra Bagged Upright Vacuum. The best place to get an owner’s manual is from the Oreck Factory of which I will supply for you listed below or you can download the owner’s manual from the Oreck Website. . I would check with your local Oreck dealer or vacuum dealer in your area to see what is going on. This is most unusual for this to happen. I had the same problem after not paying attention to the connections when replacing my motor. I spent days searching for information and only found several non-answers with small photos that no one can read.I contacted Oreck for wiring information. They explicitly stated that they can't provide any wiring information for safety and liability reasons.
I found the Ametek schematic which shows the LINE and TAP locations on the motor.
Note: I have a 2600HH XL with 2 headlights.
Connect as follows:
3A, LINE: White lead w/piggy back terminal from light harness #1 & white lead from the power harness to the piggy back terminal 2A, TAP: Black lead from light harness #1 3B, LINE: White lead w/piggy back terminal from light harness #2 & black lead from the power harness 2B, TAP: Black lead from light harness #2
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG THEIR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The motor has 5 wires to the motor as stated in the Oreck owners manual, tow are for the headlights, one is a ground wire, and the other two are for the motor. There are two screws that hold in the Oreck motor and a good suggestion is to use tape the wires leads and mark the wires so that you will not make a mistake as you take it apart and reassemble the motor. That way you will not make any mistakes, whether or not you have wires for a headlight or not, the rules are the same. Also refer to the owner’s manual schematic and the exploded view.
