Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop

1 Answer

USB Hi, I have a strange one. I reinstalled the OS on my Dell 2400 all is fine except the USB ports. OS is working, all drivers installed, connection to internet, installed SP3, all the accessories work, the drivers are in and device manager shows no errors. The external drive is working fine. Could all the ports have burned out? rmatheson@wowway.com

What is also strange is the USB mouse works, but all the rest of the ports do not. Could it be an issue where 1.0 or a 2.0 and either version conflicting with service pack 3?

OK, I was wrong it is not the USB port, I think it is the external drive. I have one of the WD solid state drives, I think its called a pony. It appears not to load the drivers to the PC so the computer can recongnize it. It was fine yesterday and I left hooked up when I reinstalled the OS and now it does'nt work. So, there has to be an issue with the drivers of the external, question is why.

When you reinstalled the operating system with the pony plugged in then most likely you deleted the partition and OS on the pony. You will have to reinstall the OS and you lost all of your saved work.

Its more likely that there could be a loose connection to the motherboard. If not try to attach some ports to the same place on the motherboard and if they also dont work motherboard at fault if they do obviously your old ports are dead for some reason. Good luck.

I know you have probably done this already but run a virus check then a spyware check on the computer just to make sure its nothing else interfering with your drivers. Then check under the device manager that the drivers are installed and if they are or are not use the re-install command there to add the drivers again. I really couldn't tell you why when some drivers are manually added that it all goes wrong. Hope this helps you out.

I have a Dell Dim 2400 and no connection with HP Deskjet 3070A.

Charles, has this combination worked previously, have you been able to print from your Dell Dimension 2400 to your HP Deskjet 3070A successfully?

If the answer to the above is Yes, then if you believe that the printer is still working correctly and you can test this with a different computer able to print to it, you should consider uninstalling and re-installing the HP software and device drivers for this printer.

If you have not printed to this printer successfully previously, have you tested the printer with a different computer and proven it is still working fine?

If the printer works fine to a different computer then providing you are using the same USB cable to connect to your Dell 2400, the problem needs to be narrowed down further.

Check that you can plus other USB devices into the port on the Dell used for the HP printer - if these work, then your USB port is good - if not, try another port if you have one.

If your USB hardware is good, then again you are left with the need to uninstall and re-install the HP software and device drivers - it may be worth trying to download the latest version of such software if available. HP tend to update their All-in-One software on a regular basis.

My Dell Dimension 2400 has stopped working - how do i restore the factory settings ?

Hello,

It appears your model Dell 2400 should have been supplied with the CD's for reinstalling Windows XP, CD will be green or blue in color and the drivers and applications that came with the computer.

If so, back up your files first to an external drive and then put the CD in the CD drive and reboot the computer. It should come up to reinstall XP.

If good to go, you will be prompted to install the second Cd as well as online XP updates.
Software that was installed after you bought the computer also wouyld have to be reinstall as well as restoring your backed up file.

Rememberm all data is lost when you reinstall your operating system, unless these is a choice on install that may ask for destructive, or non-destrutive (keeps files).

I am attaching a link to Dell for your to copy and paste into your web browser for the support page for drivers and user guide in the event you need to reveiw the process.
