Question about Canon ZR700 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Open Question

Canon ZR700 will not turn on

My canon zr700 will not turn on. I tried to plug it in w/o the battery attached b/c the manual says it will work like that. It did not. The charge light will not come on at all. I used it in may at my son's high school graduation without any problems. I thought it might be the power cord, but it should still work with one of the batteries. I have two batteries, I think at least one of them should work. When I push the button to eject the tape it will not work also.

I'm having the same problem. I had a full battery and i was done filming for a second. I turned it back on and it wouldn't come on. My charge light won't come on either.

If you find out what's wrong with it tell me please.

My camera will turn off while filming intermittently. I was hoping it was just a battery issue, but no resolution.

SOURCE: Tape won't come out!

I had the exact same problem, and just by dumb luck, I managed to get the tape compartment to pop open after trying hundreds of things. Maybe this will work for you too...who knows??? What I did was to first remove the battery and AC power to "reset" the camera (I guess). I then put the battery back in place and WHILE HOLDING THE CAMERA IN THE UPRIGHT (AS IF USING THE CAMERA FOR VIDEO) POSITION, I pushed the "Open/Eject" latch. VIOLA!!! Like I said, it may be dumb luck, but I haven't had the problem again. It may be that gravity helped to take the stress off the ejecting mechanism...dunno???? BTW, when I was having the problem, the mechanism would "click" 3 or 4 times while trying to move the tape out. Good luck!!! I hope this helps someone!

SOURCE: Canon zr300 ejects tapes

Hi guys,

Thank you very much for this solution posting. Really it worked. I was about to buy another one instead of fixing the problem. Because you know how the pain is, to send it factory and getting it repaired.

Once again Thank you.

SOURCE: The tape will not eject.

It's EXTREMELY tricky and runs the risk of causing further damage. I strongly suggest finding a local service center to perform work of that nature.

SOURCE: My camera is jammed up and won't eject the tape.

Sounds like you have a "dead" camcorder. This can be caused by a circuit protect (tiny fuse) being blown or a bad board. This will need to be repaired by an experienced technician. www.austintelstarservices.com

How do you play what you recorded

It is not possible to play directly on this camera as it is an old model.
You should get a cassette player and put the tape in it and connect it to your TV.

Canon Optura 60 will not turn on, No lights when plugged in.Dead

never buy a canon. i have the same issue and it is not easy to fix. i dissasembled the thing already but too complicated. the lithium memory battery inside too is non user replaceable as it is illustrated in the manual. you got to have it serviced to replace it because that small battery is soldered. poor buyers....

Grey Bars appear on video playback

The monitor you view while recording does not read from the tape where the problem is located, that's why you are not seeing them during recording.
Since they are not visible while recording, the video section is healthy, only the recording is faulty and it is unlikely you can do anything at home to correct it.
This may be a common problem and perhaps Canon is familiar with it.
I recommend you call their service line directly:

Cannot transfer from camcorder to computer.

Hi,
make sure you are using 4 pin to 4pin firewire which looks like this:

After connecting,
Switch on the Cam.
Open Windows Movie Maker and import video from device.

Digital video camcorder

Try the most obvious solutions first; making sure the AC adapter for the camera is plugged into the camcorder-- and the plug orientation is correct if applicable, and it is in turn plugged into the wall.
Is the wall outlet working? Try another location in your home to be sure. Is the AC adapter working? If you have a battery, attach it to the camera and see if it charges. Next, look for obvious outward physical damage to the camcorder that could cause it to stop working.
The thin battery you speak of if generally just for backing up the time and date, and is not needed for operation.
The power switch on Canon models is usually a slider that goes from Manual to Auto to VCR mode. If it is dirty or wearing out, move it a small amount to one side or the other, while watching the LED power indicator. If you see it flash, or light dimly, the switch is bad.
Read the manual-- the unit may have a reset function you can access, or require a tape in it to power up. Hope these help.
