Watching the Masters and the top half of the tv goes double vision with purple and green colors, it is a Mitsubishi 1080HD 2003

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony2_bing.gif,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer2_bing.gif, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

I was watching TV this morning, and I heard a slight pop from the back of the TV the picture then became distorted, blury, and off color. There is also a "burnt" smell coming from the rear of the tv, I...

One of your capacitors n the video board burnt out. You will have to use a multi-tester or capacitor tester with service manual to determine which capacitor it was that burnt out.

Big screen showing double and red ghost color

Go into your service menu and try to adjust the convergence, if it does not adjust, the IC's ( chips) are bad in that circuit. Call a local factory authorized dealer to service your tv. The cost should run around $450.00. Good luck.
