Flickering screen display

Flickering on the screen can be caused by defective hardware in the computer or by improperly installed software, but it can also be caused by interference from external devices. The following examples describe situations in which your screen could start flickering:

  • Screen starts flickering because of interference caused by devices which generate magnetic fields, for instance:
    • a TV set
    • a laser printer
    • another monitor
    • fluorescent lights
    • hidden power lines
  • Apart from interference, an incorrect setting in your system CMOS setup can also cause flickering. On some systems it is possible to distinguish between interlaced and non-interlaced monitors. The setup of your system should always be colour non-interlaced.
  • Proximity to the monitor of fans, air-conditioning units or other devices with rotating motors.
  • The number of devices using power from the same electrical line. Are you overloading the plug?
  • Monitor placed on an unstable surface.
  • Improper video drivers, this is a software problem, see section B
  • An improperly configured or a defective video card.

Screen making quick flashes

This could be a LCD screen problem or a video card problem.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop, power up the monitor first then boot up your laptop. The video will automatically switch to the external monitor, then go to the Internet and see if this flicker occurs on the external monitor.
If it still flickers then the video card has a problem.
If it does not flicker the the LCD screen maybe faulty.
Get back to me with the results of these test and I can advise the nexr course of action.

It sounds like it's on it's last legs, it might be time to start thinking about a new monitor or get it replaced if it is still under warranty.

Sumsung 930b goes dim,and flickers after about 3 min.

This sounds like the inverter has gone bad. If the bulb were bad only, you would see a faint image on the screen with a flashlight.

The problem is on this monitor, it will probably cost about $100 or so to take it to a shop to get it fixed, and that is nearing the cost of a new monitor.

If you are a little bit handy, and can disassemble the monitor, you can replace the inverter. The hardest thing about this, is getting the monitor faceplate open. Just use something firm and softer, such as a nylon spudger (this is something you can find online) or you can carefully use a thin scredriver. You just have to be careful, those cases are really tight.

Here is a good guide for general ideas on how it is done.

Dead samsung 172n power light flickers

Have you checked the power output from the power board? Is it constant and steady? Try reflowing all the joints if you haven't already. Especially transformer and coil joints. Maybe a bad logic board? Do you have spares to try? Does it do this with everything disconnected from the pwr board (switch, logic, inverter)?

Flickering monitor

this problem many caused by bad inverter. If invertes not function, it won't feed back a good signal to tell mainboard that LCD backlight is working, so the mainboard turn off the display.

To fix this problem, it is need a qualify technician and inverter's part.
Send it to LG, they will not charge you expensive. LG have a great service.

Screen Flickers

MONITOR ABCs
The monitor is a hardware device which physically connects to your video card. The monitor allows information and current status be be visually outputted similar to a TV.
monitor.gif Like most TVs, the computer monitor has a CRT, or Cathode Ray Tube, which is found inside the computer monitor as illustrated in the above picture. The CRT is the main component and most expensive part within your computer monitor. Within the CRT are three electron guns, Red, Green and Blue. Each of these guns streams a steady flow of electrons, left to right, for each line of your monitor. As the electrons hit the phosphors on the CRT, the phosphor will glow certain intensities. As a new line begins, the guns will then begin at the left and continue right; these guns will repeat this process sometimes thousands of times until the screen has been completely drawn line by line. Once the phosphors on the CRT have been hit with an electron they will only glow for a short period of time; because of this, the CRT must be refreshed, which means the process will be repeated as explained above. If the video card's refresh rate is not set high enough, you may encounter a flicker or a noticeable steady line scrolling from the top to the bottom of your screen. If you are encountering this issue, resolutions have been described on our video card page.

MINIMUM RESOLUTION The size is an important factor of the computer's running resolution. When picking the resolution, try basing it off the monitor's size for best use. 13-inch 640 x 480 15-inch 800 x 600 17-inch 1,024 x 768 21-inch 1,280 x 1,024

I had the same problem with the flashing screen. It turned out to be the anti virus - anti spyware software was somehow screwing with the harddrive files. I uninstalled the anti virus and spyware program and that stopped the flickering. Hope this helps.

Flashing on and off

I would suggest trying another monitor to rule out your PC or monitor card. I would also check the video settings on the PC. Then assuming your cable/connector and video card are okay, it sounds like a lamp or lamp driver (a.k.a. ballast or inverter) issue. In other words, an internal issue that probably needs component-level troubleshooting.
