Hello, dodgedust
Welcome to fixya.

You said, Your freezer will not stop running.

What is the brand freezer and the model number?
How old is the freezer?

Freezers are supposed to go on and off as needed to keep the temperature at a consistent .
We call this cycling on and off.
The problem sounds like a malfunctioning thermostat.
Left like this it will eventually burn out the compressor!

Here is an interesting report I just read!

Repair or replace your appliances?

When to pull the plug on your old refrigerator

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your refrigerator,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your freezer is under warranty or less than four years old ,
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that refrigerators under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your freezer is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new rfreezer.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive freezer
six or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a freezer you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.

My freezer is not getting ice

If the freezer is not cold enough you may have a compressor problem. First totally defrost the fridge. then plug the fridge back in and check that the fan in the bottom that cools the compressor is working. the cold control can fail so turn the cold control to the highest setting and note if the compressor stops running before the freezer starts making ice. If the fridge just runs and runs and does not get cold enough to make ice you have a somewhat serious problem. the compressor can be replaced but it is expensive and you might be better off to get a different unit (new or used) that will work correctly. Most used appliance stores will have something that will work well and won't cost that much.

I have a similar issue with my GE GSS22JE that the freezer was working but the refrigerator was not. Opened up the back, cleaned out the coil and back side. coil fan spins and turns on when pluggged in....

Hi,

Usually when this happens it is because of a problem with the fan that moves cold air from the freezer section of your unit to the refrigerator section. Either the fan has gone bad or the unit has frosted up to the point of stopping the fan. Try defrosting (unplugging) the unit over night and then check it to see if the fan runs. If not then replace the fan. If it runs and then stops after awhile like days or even a few weeks, then you may need a defrost timer.
It is good that you cleaned everything out but probably not your problem. This may get you going temporarily, but a repairman may be in your future. It is not a hard DIY job to fix the timer or blower either. The parts are easy to find on online, just do a search for "appliance parts".

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!
