I am playing Cd's and have a pair of Definitive Technology- Model BP-10 tower speakers connected to my Technics SA-DX1040 5.1 Channels Receiver and while the music is playing, all of a sudden the music...

There are 2 major possibilities and since you didn't say if the sound comes back here's the general split.
1. The power amp section could be having problems and/or protection circuits are kicking in. In this case repair of the amp will be needed.
2. There is a bad connection somewhere making the audio path go bad. In this case a good can of contact cleaner applied to all switches and controls may help. If not, the bad connection may be internal. If tapping (or rapping) on the unit makes it come back, there's probably a bad internal connection.
If letting the unit cool down brings back the sound, its the power amp section.

I have a Panasonic SA-PM31 stereo system with two auxiliary input methods: the first appears to be a common auxiliary cable input which says "phones." The second is a two cable input system...

The corect input for your ipod is another one who's name is "auxiliary" The "phones" input is dedicate only for pick-up, or another device who had to output a very small level signal. Your ipod have a high power level on output because he is amplified for a good level sound on your earphones. So, you can serious damage your Panasonic SA-PM31 sound system when input a too high level signal on "phones input" Phones is for unamplified audio signals like pickup signal direct from the head wires, or casette deck signal direct from the head wires. Gross (unprocessed) signal.

My tuner will play for a short time (fm radio)then shut off with a loud click and the message "OVERLOAD" appears on the display. Help! Thanks.

This is a common question on this site. Amps of all types have protection circuits to keep them from doing a self meltdown. Testing follows this logic.
1. Remove all speaker wires. 2. Keep the volume down - all the way. 3. Turn the unit on. 4. If it does not trip off, then there is a problem either in a speaker or the wiring. a. Reconnect one at a time until/unless it trips off b. That will tell you where to look further.
If it does trip off, then there is an internal circuit issue in the amp and probably requires professional help to fix.

Receiver

My SA-AX710 overloads intermittently. The problem is a broken solder joint between a pin on one of the power transistor modules and the circuit board. To fix it, I removed the circuit board from the case and resolder the borken joint. Opening the case is easy. First remove the top of the case. Then remove the 3 screws in front. The front panel can then be pulled off. After that, remove all screws holding the connectors on the back. The circuit board can be detached from the case by removing the screws from the top of the board. Broken solder joint is probably one of the most common problems with modern electronics.
