I had the same problem. On Microsoft website, it is mentioned that if you bought a computer with Windows already installed and you want to reinstall it, you have to contact the manufacturer's website of your computer. In my case, I had to contact Acer. The person at the support center told me that I need to download the .iso file from there website, the .iso file that corresponds to the model of my computer. She mentioned also that the recovery disks produced are needed during the installation. So, I suggest you contact HP to know if you need the product key to reinstall Windows, or like me, you have to download an.iso.

You could in principle note down everything you have installed, perform a system recovery to set the computer back to the factory, from either the Recovery CDs you made when you first got the computer, or from the Recovery partition on your hard disk (which should not be infected) You would then have re-install the other software that you wanted from scratch, either from the original disks, or downloading it from the internet. This includes updates, drivers etc.
One way of reminding yourself of what software you have is to keep a copy of your infected disk to look at (remove your new disk before looking though).
The other thing you could do is try to remove the virus. , either by returning the computer to a professional to do for you, or by yourself, or sign up to one of the many the forums that exist on the internet who will help you e.g., www.majorgeeks.com, www.bleepingcomputer.com, www.computerhope.com, www.techsupportforum or one of the many others. Volunteers will help you, and direct you to use virus removal tools. It may be a long job and may not always be successful - sometimes the only thing to do is start from scratch (erase your hard disk: try NOT to erase the recovery partition though. If you have lost the recovery partition, and you did not make recovery CDs, HP may supply you with a set of recovery disks if you ask them nicely and give them loot.
Let us know how you fare (in a couple of months....)

If pressing F11 ("system recovery") does nothing, then your disk-drive, which contains a "system recovery partition" is inaccessible,
i.e., your disk-drive has failed.

You'll need to buy a new disk-drive, install it, and use the original "System Restore" set of CD/DVD disks to reinstall Windows onto the new disk-drive.

Most systems come with a recovery drive on their hard disk. Smone times it takes the last drive letter before the CD-ROM drive. If that is the case with you, locate the drive by
1. Double click my computer icon on your desktop
2 Locate the drive that has the recovery data
3 Run the recovery
Make sure you read the instratuctions on the sreen and follow the steps you are asked to follow on the recovery wizard.

This will retore your PC to the factory setting.
But note that most factory seting come with evalution copies of original software like Microsoft Office, etc you may need to get the licenses for these software after the retore to make them genuie.

Want to restore HP Pavillion 505 N computer back to original

To do a system recovery without recovery disks (not all machines can perform this without recovery disks) press the power button and immediately keep tapping the F10 button until you enter the recovery console.

If unsuccessful, you will need to boot using the recovery disks that came with the machine.
  1. Place the first disk in the 1st CD tray (some machines may have multiple CD/DVD drives) and start up.
  2. Start the machine and immediately press ESC button to enter BIOS
  3. Select the drive the recovery CD is in
  4. Press Enter
  5. Once the machine boots off the recovery disk it will provide several options
  6. Press R for a standard recovery
  7. Press F for a "destructive" recovery (will wipe out and format hard drive)
  8. Press Q to quit
Once you've made your selection, the recovery process will automatically proceed. It may ask for additional recovery disks which have more software.

NOTE: if you are currently able to boot into the machine prior to recovery you should go in and back up any pertinent files. Both recovery options will wipe out personal files.

You can take the drive out of the computer and connect it to another computer to see if there is any data on it. If there isn't, you MAY be able to have the drive unformatted professionally, but buying a new computer would be cheaper. If there is data on the drive you have other options, depending on what that data is. It could be as simple as making another partition bootable.

How to get to recovery partition when booting up HP Pavillion MX

The same problem happened to me today on my hp Pavillion a1600n.
Try pressing the F10 key as the computer is powering on. This may allow the computer to access the recovery partition on the hard disk. If you get that far, then you can restore the user partition from the recovery partition. If it is like the a1600n, then you can do a restore of all the content and either leave your own data files intact, or, have it reformat the user partition and then you WILL have to restore all the data files. In either case, you will likely need to reinstall any applications that were added AFTER you got the PC. (Or, in my case, some apps were still kinda working...).

If F10 does not work, you may be able to create a PC Recovery Tools CD from a different hp XP machine, and boot that CD. During part of that boot up process you may get the opportunity to run the Recovery program.

Hope that helps!

Hello,

You system is infected with a potent antivirus, and cannot be resolve anymore by a potent antivirus.

So you need to reinstall your computer to the original setting:

By doing this : insert the windows installation disk/ or the system recovery disk.
reboot your PC from the CD/DVD rom and then wait until boot finish.

If you are using system disk recovery , just read carefully the instruction on-screen.
If you are using the windows installation disk then here is the windows installation information: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941

May this help,
