Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a GE Profile side/side refrigerator which was delivered on 4/19/08. When the ice comes down the chute it makes a lot of noise - so much noise that you cannot hear another person speak within the same room. Is there anyway that this clattering can be cushioned? Also, the ice seems to clump up into a large ball and when it tries to go thru the coils, it shakes and rattles the entire appliance. Other than removing the lg clump of ice is there anyway to prevent this? azcowgirl19

Yes I do recognize the problem.
The ice maker has a couple of defective parts in it!
Lucky for you you still have a warranty for this GE Profile fridge and did not waste anytime looking into it!
In the USA, Call GE at 1(800) GE CARES , and tell them the ice maker has multiple problems so they can service it while you still have your full parts and labor warranty!

Let me know how it goes!
Please remember to leave a rating at our site before you leave!
Thank You, Huuum

Ge profile artica ice dispenser and chute frosing.

This may be because the chute door is not all the way shut when off. If yes the warm moist air is being pulled through the opening and causing this. Sea Breeze

Ice chute cloggs with solid chunk of ice over time

Have you had high humidity over the last few months where you live?
This could be normal under those conditions.
BUT.....make sure the door is closing FULLY at the ice dispenser outlet.

GE profile Artica side by side. I am getting a frost build up

Sounds like the dispensor flap is not closing completely , pulling outside air in . Using a flashlight on the outside of the flap , look inside to see if any light is visible . If so , then the ice flap plunger and solenoid will have to be replaced . Also , excessive crushed ice can also cause frosting .

Too much ice, maybe the ice maker didn't connect right, the gears moves but the spring inside the ice maker won't move.

Ice dispenser in door clogged up or frozen

I see this a lot with people who mainly used crushed ice.  It will leave small pieces of ice behind and add up to a clogged situation.  If you mainly used crushed ice you will need to run full cubes thru every so often to keep the chute clear.  Another cause of this would be the flapper door on the dispenser doesn't close completely and warm air gets in and melts the ice in the bin so it clumps together and won't dispense.  In this case you may need to replace the solenoid that shuts the door and/or the door.  Let me know what you find.
