LG Tromm DLE5977W Dryer about 1 1/2 yrs old. Running small load on normal and we heard a funny clunk noise and than the dryer shut off. When i went to look, power was still on with 20 min. left on timer. I tried to turn off and on, and it powered up fine, but when you hit start, it just makes a noise like it is trying to go, and dryer isn't turning, then it trips something and the noise stops. power stays on the whole time. My husband thinks the belt may have broken or slipped off, but we aren't sure how to get the back off to check. Any ideas on what you think it might be, or how to get the back off and what to check for?? Thanks, from Mom of 5 who can't wait to fix or laundry will pile a mile high!!!!

3 screws on back of dryer to remove the top. Top slides back about 2 inches and lifts off. Dryer drum should have a thin drive belt around it. Pull on belt. If broken you will know. If loose, then it's off pulleys. Sounds like a broken belt. Check repairclinic.com or appliancepartspros.com for dyi videos on how to replace.

Look inside the drum at the seam, front and back side. The weld on the stainless steel drum may have cracked. You would need to replace part number 3045EL1002F. It is moderatly difficult to replace.

Clunking could be from bad rollers or cracked drum. Check the drum seam for a crack. If its the rollers you can do the same thing as drum replacement only order the rollers. I got my parts from Sears parts. The below is for a 2514 but should be close for yours.

Ordered drum from Sears parts. 3045EL1002D
Cost of 85$ + 15 to ship. It came in 5 days.

Here is how to do it on a DLE2514W. Takes about an hour. I only used a phillips screw

driver. Take your time and look over the situation. I hope that I rememberd

everything. Good luck.

4. Carefully unplug 4 plugs from back of control panel.
5. Looking at inside at the top. Remove wiring bundle from 2 guides.

sides. Lift drum to free from rollers.
14. Observe how drive belt is routed around motor and tension roller. Push tension

roller up and release belt. Carefully take belt off and remove.
15. Almost done. Lift drum up at rear to free from rear rollers. Remove.
16. While your're there vacuume up dust and reverse procedure to install.

SOURCE: LG DLE5977W dryer trips circuit breaker

You could set the dryer to manual dry and then no heat and see if the result is the same. If it runs then, you have a short in the heating system somewhere. If it still kicks out the breaker, you've got even worse troubles. Most likely an electronic board, and what ever caused it to go, like maybe still a heating system issue. I*d suggest calling a qualified service tech for this one. In the USA, you can find one at http://www.lge.com/us/support/repair/support-repair-provider-lookup.jsp

SOURCE: why are the clothes coming out of the dryer

The problem might not be with the dryer, but with the washer. Let me explain. When I first got my LG w/d set, I did a web search, and found that front load washers tend to build up bacteria and mold(which one person said was staining her clothes). The solution was to leave the door of the washer open when not in use. That worked for me for the most part, but the musty smell persisted. I found that the soap tray was getting dirty(from mold/bacteria), and the area inside was even worse. So now I remove the soap tray when not using the washer. Also, some appliance stores have cleaning packs that dissolve in an empty washer load. They are supposed to clean out residue and kill bacteria that cause odor in "HE" washers that may only be noticeable from the dryer. The brand name of the product I have is "Washer Fresh", and they're about $12 for 6 "PowerPacs".
