Hi charles,

i don't think the catalyst has something to do with the ac. you mentioned you are in africa and i am assuming it is positive 50 degrees celcius and not negative 50 degrees celcius as stated in your post. i could see a dash before the number 50.

anyway, there is a pressure switch that would de-activate your compressor once the high pressure reaches an abnormal level. and this level could easily be reached at 50 degrees celcius ambient temperature. so it seems there is nothing you can do about it.

i could suggest that you put an adittional fan if you still don't have, to cool the condenser further.
or just try to cool the condenser, while parked, turn the ac on, and doze the condenser with water and observe if the ac would still cut off. if it does not, then the problem is your ambient temperature.

tnx 4 using fixya,

It sounds like you have a leaking engine cylinder head gasket, the combustion gases are getting into the cooling system and causing an air pocket, this leads to overheating and other symptoms you mentioned.

Ac does not cool enough

depends how you are starting the ac .Always on starting the ac when weather is hot the first step is to start car ac fully down all the windows in order the ac blow push out the hot air in the cabin out and this will also do whilst driving either. When you notice that the air in cabin gets cooler then you wind up your windows. Depends also have the correct gas in the ac system. and the ac temperature sensor works ok.

Yours is a new car, so AC should be working correctly. Still you can get it checked at an authorized service outlet. Is cooling sufficient in the summer months? Does AC cut off from time to time, at least when the temperature setting is kept high? If answer is negative to either of these, then get the AC checked.

Also if there is a substantial drop in pickup when AC comes on, get AC checked. According Hyundai manual says that AC should be used at least once a week to keep it functioning correctly. I hope you did that in the winter months.

If AC is working fine, then I suggest that you always keep the air under 100% recirculation (avoid fresh air mode). Secondly keep the AC setting to as high a temperature as is comfortable, and keep blower at minimum speed after the initial cooling is over.

My lincoln mk8 AC started cooling some times and not cooling at other times. The outside temperature is always way off from what it should be when the AC stops cooling. My car has about 60,000 miles on it....

might be the same thing.. but maybe not

personally, it sounds like your IAT (intake air temp) sensor if your dash is displaying incorrect temperatures

If outside temp is less than 60 your a/c should not operate full time and if outside temp is less than 30 won't work at all

The car has been sitting for almost a year. I started it today to drive out of necessity. The A/C clutch does not engage. How do i jumper across the pressure switch to add freon? Thanks, Ken

dont!!! an you start to add freon, itll start to cycle the compresor clutch until within safe operating pressure and then it will hold clutch in constant. charge liquid(with can upside down). if wont take freon in this manner than your more than low on charge. running low on charge will quickly destroy pump, especiallt those old harrisons. the refrigerant also cools the compressor. good luck and wear gloves-
