I had the same problem and this worked. Hope it helps.
If you can check mark the unit then your driver is working. Check down near your clock, on the bottom bar. See if the mute is on. If so then double click the speaker icon and bring up the audio properties box. check to make sure your volumes are up, on the sliders and there is no mute on. Yuo probably have already checked these, but just going through the motions. If still nothing, plug the speakers into a radio, cd player, mp3 player etc..to see if the speakers are working. If all else fails, unload the Realtek drivers and re-install.

The Windows control panel is where you should look, under sound. You can then select the output. If you are plugged into the audio output jack it will not recognise any particular speakers, so does not need a driver.
- Click on the "Start" button
- Click on "Control Panel"
- With the Control Panel in "Control Panel Home" view please click on "Hardware and Sound"
- Where it says "Sound" in green letters there are three options below that are in blue click on "Manage Audio Devices"
- This will bring up a window labeled "Sound"
- On the "Playback" tab there is listed the sound options available to
you. One should read "Speakers HD Audio Device" Click on that.
- There should now be a check mark on that option.
- The Sound should then play through your Speakers
Connect your HDMI cable to laptop then change the setting in audio output to HDMI digital output
For toggling the display you need to press the Fn and F5 together
If you have sounds already playing on the laptop, then you must switch your default to the HDMI then go and re open the program ie itunes. Any other program playing sounds on ur laptop speakers will continue to play through the lap top speakers...
On VISTA do this Right click your screen go to personalize on the left there is an option "connect to a projectror or external display" Click the speaker picture, and set the default to HDMI by right clicking it and selecting make default. Close your media programs, and then re-open them and hit play..
I have lenovo notepad 3000n100 with winXP sp2. I downloaded realtek audio from ibm site and installed. Now sound is coming at my output port but the in-built laptop speaker is not giving any sound output. The hardware is ok as the sound was coming at in-built speaker before formatting. The previous audio driver set up file i have lost. Plz help.
The only steps the tech made, I was looking over his shoulder, was to go to "Control Panel", "Sounds and Audio Deives", "Volume" tab, under device volume "Advance", "Play Control" "Advanced" and then put a check mark in the box for "1 digital output only". That solved our problem. Hope it will work for you.
Unplug speaker connection. Go to Control Panel, double-click on "Sounds and Audio Devices" and on "Volume" tab make sure "mute" is not checked and that volume is sufficiently up there. If thats ok select "Sounds" tab and go to "Program events", select any Windows sounds and check to see if you can hear the sound by clicking on the arrow next to it. If you can hear sound its ok so then check your speakers connection to correct sound output jack and that external speaker is powered on.
