Yield sign usb mass storage device

Ah yes the famous error for usb. Cant identify the device, Normally this just needs a driver update or try and unplug wait a few seconds and plug back in. If updating driver fails uninstall that usb shut down unit wait 10 sec restart and it should be ok.Unfortunately I have noticed that usb devices all seem to get this at least once . From Mp3 players to flashdrivers even had a keyboard it happened with, Sometime it depends on the usb port whether usb 1.x 2.x or 3.x but then it can be what OS you're using. Various reasons.
If using device manager finds no update try using SlimDrivers Free

Have photos and software on my i.t.flashdrive but now my laptop wont even find the flashdrive! is there any software i need to download?

No soft needed, it's a simple USB stick , the default driver is used for all. Try the stick in another pc, if it's the same then the memory chip inside it has failed and all the data on it is lost for good - junk it.

Front usb configration

Just talking from my experience, I have noticed that some boards have problems with USB ports that are connected via a cable (yours is, I presume). Like the P5GC-MX I have in my CCTV server, the front ports only allow Flashdrives and low voltage devices but it doesn't accept USB Harddisks (those using laptop harddrives).

Can you attach flashdrives or is it really dead?

How about your pin connections? was it connected properly using the cable to the board?

What type of casing are you using? I noticed some cheap casings (those especially that don't use FoxConn, have problems with their front USB ports)

Memory stick

Hi Amanda,

All USB memory sticks/flashdrives uses the internal power supply of the device it is attached to (such as your DVD Rec/Player and your son's laptop). Having said that, once it is plug it is then made into an integral part of the device, if something is electrically wrong with it, the flashdrive will bring the whole device down. Technically, I suspect that the flashdrive has an internal short grounding the supply line. This is the "+5VDC rail" as we call it.

If you are seeking the services of an on-site repair person, it might help that this information be relayed to him/her as it will narrow down the diagnosis to the power supply section, fusible links/resistors, regulators and others of the sort.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
