Tr to remember if there were recent bumps/falls with your unit. it might have caused some of the parts inside to get loose.
have your camera to a service center and try to survey/canvass only for its repair cost.
then try to survey/canvass the price of a new camera.
then make wise decision either to have it repaired or getting a new one!

Try to remove first te battery for about 10 minutes and check if you still have the problem if yes this can be problem this will require already a servcei from a repair center for some part replacement but since it was working for about 4 years I will advice you to get a new camera instead having it repair because the cost of the repair will almost be the same as getting a new camera....

Hope that helps...........

Cant see anything through camera

There is a button next to the viewfinder. When you press it, you go between the viewfinder and being able to see what you're shooting through the tiny video screen on the back. That should take care of it. Otherwise, it may need repair. Good luck.

Coolpix 5700 Image Smearing

It sure sounds like the CCD is acting hinky on you from time to time. Check out http://www.nikonusa.com/email_images/nikonusa/service_advisory/coolpix.html
and call the 800 number in the advisory for better advice from Nikon repair people. This problem seems to be manifesting itself with lots of different kinds of screen displays. Mine just went black. Nikon was very good about making the free repair - all I paid was the cost of sending the camera to them. Don't send your battery, memory card, camera strap or lens cover. All they need is the camera body.
