Question about HP Photosmart C3180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Doesn't work all of a sudden with vista

So there i was printing along with my c 3180 for months. woke up this morning, went to print out an email, and all of a sudden, no printing. get a status message the merely says: error-printing.

i deleted the document.

i ran the hp diagnostic, and now it says that there is a connection problem.

i walked away to get coffee, and now, 5 copies of the email have printed.

now, tried printing again....same thing.

what's up with this?? i l-o-v-e this printer and have had no problem with it and don't want a problem with it.. please fix my baby!

    i've done all that. i'm not a neophyte with printers and computers, though certainly not an expert. it's on, it's checked, it's the default printer, i've cancelled docs, i've actually uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, it doesn't print anything but the test page.

    the printer is fine, it scans, it copies, i even installed just the basic printing options, rather than the full scale hp suite.

    nothing different happened last night than happens every other night...shut down the computer and the printer, closed the door to the office, spent the night with my husband.

    woke up this morning, booted everything up, had breakfast, got dressed, came in to get started, and boom, no ability to print. did all of your answer and still nothing except that silliness that i mentioned in my problem. still nothing. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

    bueller???

First check the printer icon. ( Make sure the printer is turned on during this process)
Go to Start> Control Panel Go to Hardware and sounds> Go to printers.

And check that the printer C3180 has a check mark.
If not right click on the same and left click on Set printer as default.
Next make sure the printer icon says 0Ready.

If not right click on top of the C3180 icon and left click on Clear all documents (untill it says 0ready)
If it still does not say 0Ready.
Then Go to Start> Then Run(if not where you see start search Type there as Run and hit enter> in the run Box type services.msc and click Ok

Now in the services window> Scroll down an locate for Print Spooler and double click on the same>
Now under Services status If Start is highlighted Cliick on start ( now a small window aill poppup and close)
If Stop is highlighted then click on stop ( A small window will popup and close, Now you will see start highlighted> Click on start and then either click on apply or ok close all the windows and restart your computer.
Now First
Go to Start> Control Panel Go to Hardware and sounds> Go to printers.And check that the printer C3180 has a check mark and if it says 0Ready.

If yes Right click on the same icon and left click on Properties.
Now in this window towards the bottom right you will see a tab which says print test page>Click on it to see if it prints a test page.
If yes then Try to print a document.

If non of this works>
Go to Start> Control Panel (or setup then contro panel) and then go to Printer and faxes (or printers and other hardware)
And deleted any or all the icon which says C3180
If it is not deleting then right click on the same icon and lecft click on cancel all documents> Then unplug the USB cable which is connected to the printer end and leave it unplugged for atleast 1Mins before reconnecting> (In the meantime reboot your computer)
After rebooting the computer connect the USB cord to the Computer it should install the printer diriver on its own> (if it prompts the CD then insert the Cd if you have it handy) it may take some time to install the prnter driver
Then
Go to Start> Control Panel Go to Hardware and sounds> Go to printers.
then C3180 See.if it says 0Ready>Right click on the same icon and left click on Properties>
Now in this window towards the bottom right you will see a tab which says print test page>Click on it to see if it prints a test page then try printing any document or Email.

    If in case you still have the same problem then> Now Go to Start> Control Panel (or settings then contro panel) and then go to Printer and faxes (or printers and other hardware) and cllick on add printers> click next> Uncheck automatically detect Plug and play printer> Click Next> Then Select the manufacturer as HP (Not Hewlette Packard) And click next> Now Select Deskject 990C> Click next> And select deafult printer and try printing from this print driver.

I had this very same ongoing problem with my iP3000 and recently with my iX4000 but I refused to believe it was the printheads as the iP3000 would print cd/dvd discs without a problem. Colour on paper was always there even though I used Calidad tanks.

My solution, or more aptly, my workaround was to change the paper setting from Plain paper to Glossy paper but still using plain paper and low and behold, after nine months of test pages with only the Windows logo it stated printing black text again albeit slowly now. Same deal for the iX4000, it started printing black text on plain paper as well after 4 weeks when the problem first occurred

I also did all the maintenance rigmarole over and over etc...with no results. My printers are hooked up to two PC's, Vista and XP so maybe I eventually scrambled the printers barins or something, anyway I'm printing again.

Worth a try and nothing to lose

Windows Mail (Vista) quit printing body of E-mail to my printers.


Check the email print settings. If settings are ok, do a repair for your software using the control panel->add/remove programs.

There is an un-acknowledged issue with these printers having problems like that ....

They end up replacing some big parts inside it.

My HP 3180 printer/scanner will not scan. It will print. What can I do?


Go to HP.com and download the latest drivers for your scanner. When asked where to save the drivers, chose DESKTOP. Then you must go to CONTROL PANEL uninstall the old HP files. then go to your desktop and install the new drivers. This should take care of your problem as long as there insn't amechanical problem with your scanner.

Printer printing unwanted Barcodeish blobs.


Well, I turned it off for around 4 or 5 hours, tried it once more and it was working again. I'm not sure if it got overheated or merely needed some time to sort itself out, but every time it started doing it again I just opened the lid, waited a bit, and printed nozzle checks until it snapped out of it.

under print options it will pop up a menu saying to "only show options compatible with my computer...." unclick that and it will allow you to select letter size paper again

Wireless problems with HP 3180


yes..that scanner issue keeps on popping up. has to do with the print command that's either compatible with the netgear standard, or it isn't..flukey, and not consistent..you might address netgear on this issue, but I've seen it before, actually..

Driver issues


Somewhere during the software install something went wrong. So every time you start the printer it thinks the drivers needs to be reinstalled & it finishes by installing its self again. Open the control panel & uninstall everything that the 3180 has installed on your PC including other perk programs bundled with the printer. Unplug the printer & Re-start the pc when finished.
Go to the link below & download HP's latest software for your 3180.
Follow the manual's instructions to the letter for re-installation.

When you finish the install re-start the Pc. Go back to the HP site above and click the link you see there to: Automatically check to see if the latest driver is installed correctly.
